Program Admission

program Admission

Admission to the Science and Technology Program is extremely competitive and consists of highly academically performing scholars from the Northern part of Prince George's County. A scholar's eligibility is based on their PSAT 8/9 score and grade point average (GPA) which is determined by quarter grades in English, math, science, and social studies for all four quarters of the previous school year and the first quarter of the current school year.

Tenth-grade scholars (i.e. Those eligible for the 10th-grade cohort) are admitted to the Science and Technology Program on a space available bases and must apply to compete for a few openings each year. The admissions process is the same as the entering 9th grade scholars.

Whether you are considering applying as an eighth or ninth grader you must complete an application which is available through the Specialty Program Office in October. Private and Home Schools (Non-PGCPS) must complete the following Google Form to apply. In addition, all scholars are required to take the PSAT 8/9 test. Eighth grade scholars who attend Prince George's County Public Schools will be tested during the month of December at their respective schools. Non-PGCPS scholars will be administered the PSAT 8/9 test also during December at one of the three Science and Technology sites (i.e. Eleanor Roosevelt High School, Charles Herbert Flowers High School, or Oxon Hill High School).

Scholars will be notified in early March by the PGCPS Testing Office regarding their eligibility status. Admittance to the Science and Technology Program at either of the three sites is based upon the scholars boundary zip code. Only scholars that are within the Northern boundary of PGCPS will be admitted to the Science and Technology Program at Eleanor Roosevelt High School.

If scholars would like to get a head start in practicing for the PSAT 8/9 test, the College Board has made available a "Practice PSAT 8/9 Exam" that can be taken at your leisure. Click here to access the Practice PSAT 8/9 Exam with a scoring sheet.
