GUIDANCE & COUNSELING
The school counseling program--in collaboration with school personnel, parents and the community--provides academic, career and personal/social support for students grades K-12. This support is provided through class guidance, small group, individual counseling and school-wide program support.
Personal Education Plan (“PEP”) talk sessions are provided for academic, career and personal goal planning with students in grades 1, 4,, 7, 9, and 11.
Class guidance lesson content includes, but is not limited to:
Bully Awareness
College/Career Readiness
Communication, Problem-Solving and Conflict Resolution
Decision Making
Goal Setting
Interpersonal Awareness and Social Skills
Multicultural/Diversity Awareness
Organization, Study and Test-Taking Skills
Students may also be referred for group and individual counseling. Groups consist of 4-8 students and run 6-8 weeks. Topics may include, but are not limited to:
Academic Motivation
Anger Management Skills
Bullying
Coping Skills
Counseling as a Related Services for Response to Intervention (RtI) and students with 504 Plans, Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), and Individualized Education Plans (IEP)
Crisis Intervention
Divorce
Personal Illness or Serious Illness/Death of Loved Ones
Substance Abuse
Crisis Intervention

If your child needs to meet with me for individual needs, please complete this consent form*, and email it to me at joy.goggins@pgcps.org. Confidentiality is maintained for students needing counseling services. Parents and administrative personnel are notified in the event of concerns posing potential harm to students/others.
