Become a PGCPS Volunteer:
If you would like to Chaperone a Field Trip or Volunteer at the school you must complete 3 steps.
Get fingerprinted by a PGCPS approved Fingerprinting Company. Visit their website for approved vendors and locations: https://www.pgcps.org/offices/humanresources/employee-and-labor-relations/fingerprinting-and-background#volunteer . You only need to complete the fingerprinting 1 time for as long as you have a student in PGCPS. The next 2 steps must be completed each new school year. There is a fee for fingerprinting. Some schools can provide letters for free fingerprinting if they are a part of a special program. Reach out to your school to see if they offer the free fingerprint letters.
Register to be a volunteer. You will need your receipt number from your fingerprint receipt to connect your fingerprints to your volunteer profile. You must reregister as a volunteer every school year after July 1st . https://www.pgcps.org/offices/humanresources/employee-and-labor-relations/fingerprinting-and-background
Complete safeschools videos and quizzes. You must complete these every school year after registering. You will receive your VIN to login after you register. https://www.pgcps.org/offices/humanresources/employee-and-labor-relations/fingerprinting-and-background
Why register and get fingerprinted?
Because you cannot volunteer in the school or attend field trips unless all 3 steps are completed and approved.
When should you register and get fingerprinted?
As soon as possible. Ideally before the start of the school year. Some classes will take field trips early in the year. You must have all of these steps completed and approved 3 weeks before volunteering or chaperoning a field trip.
