Each JROTC Unit may enter a total of two (2) teams. One male and one female team, 5 cadets per team. The same 5 cadets will conduct the entire physical fitness test, no exchanging of cadets for different exercises.
The competition will involve three (3) exercises to be executed in the following order:
a. Pull-ups (push-ups as alternate, lower point value)
b. Planks
c. 1 Mile Run
The winning team will be determined by average score.
Athletic attire (PT shorts & T-shirts as directed by instructors) will be appropriate for this event. All competitors in this event must wear appropriate footgear, any type of running shoes (no steel or plastic cleats/spikes allowed) will be suitable. Sweatshirts may be worn but will be removed during the pullups/pushups portion to observe lockout of the elbows. No utilization of headphones, airpods, or phones throughout the execution of the PFT.
Tie Breaker: cadets will be authorized to score a maximum of 150 points (except push-ups and planks) per the MCJROTC PFT standards due to competition purposes.
Equipment: Pull-up bar is approximately 1.5" outside diameter. Bars will be taped with adhesive tape. Resin/firm grip is permitted.
Position: Grasping of the bar with palms away or towards the body is permitted. Arms and legs must be completely extended with feet off the deck. Ankles may be crossed to keep legs together.
Execution: Pull body straight up, placing the chin over the bar. Return to starting position with arms fully extended.
Time Limit: No time limit.
IMPORTANT:
Chin must be placed over the bar.
Arms must be completely extended when the body is lowered to starting position.
Legs must remain extended at all times.
No swinging of the body is permitted. Partner will hold arm
in front of competitors to keep body alignment straight during the exercise.
Competitors are permitted to rest in the down position
only.
g. No "kipping" or swaying to gain momentum for the next repetition.
-Pushups are allowed as an alternative to pullups but cadets will not be able to achieve a max score of 150 points. Max points achievable with pushups is a score of 60 points. Female cadets will need to complete 50 pushups and male cadets 60 pushups.
Equipment: PT mat (indoors) or grass (outdoors)
Position: The cadet should have their elbows below their shoulders, forearms parallel to the body, and hands on the ground. Their hips should be lifted off the ground, with their feet flexed and toes grounded.
Execution: It is an isometric exercise that involves holding a push-up like position while resting on your hands and forearms. The plank is designed to test a cadet’s core strength.
Time Limit: The minimum passing score is one minute and three seconds, while the perfect score is four minutes and 20 seconds.
IMPORTANT:
a. All cadets are graded the same, regardless of gender or age.
b. The back, buttocks, and legs shall be straight from head to heels and must remain so throughout the test.
c. Feet should be placed no more than hips width apart. Hips shall be lifted off the deck with ankles at 90 degrees and the bottom of the toes on the deck.
d. The neck should be kept neutral (face looking straight down at the deck) throughout the duration of the test so the body remains straight from the head to the heels.
e. The plank will be performed on a flat, level surface. Blankets, mats, or other suitable padding may be used. However, the member must be entirely on or off the padding.
f. Elbows shall be aligned directly below the shoulders at a 90 degree angle between the forearm and upper arm. Forearms may be parallel or angled inward.
g. Hands must be on the deck, either in fists with a pinky side of the hand touching the deck or lying flat with palms touching the deck. However, the hands cannot be clasped together.
Equipment: Stop watches are required to time the event. A whistle or horn can be used to properly start the event.
Position: Runners may use a standing distance type start or a crouched sprinters start. No part of the body may extend over the starting line and no device such as starting blocks or depressions may be used to assist the competitor.
Execution: Each competitor runs the around the track 4 times or briefed on a designated running route with markers/personnel to assist with direction. The competitor’s total elapsed time for the event is clocked and recorded as he/she crosses past the pylon.
IMPORTANT:
The run is continuous (no stopping).
If the competitor fails to complete the run, he/she receives no points.
c. Running area will all be level as best possible with all cadets running the same route.
Team will be a two cadet team. One male and one female cadet. Uniform for this event will be boots and cammie bottoms. NO SHORTS ALLOWED!
Team will start and finish at same designated starting point, with TIRE FLIPS going both ways. Time will start on the Command “GO” and stop once the team has successfully cleared all obstacles, returned the tire flip to start position and ran a lap around the outside of course carrying two ammo cans each.
Team members can help each other to mount bars and walls ONLY.
This competition consists of clearing all obstacles on the course in order. Multiple attempts to clear the obstacle will be allowed. There will be a 10-second penalty assessed to the team (individually) for each obstacle not completed or skipped. If the team cannot complete the course, no points will be given.
The judge in charge of this event will explain each obstacle in detail prior to the event starting.
Times will be recorded in minutes, seconds, and tenths of a second.
Points will be given to all schools with Top 3 schools winning trophies.
Names will be drawn to determine teams. Teams whose opponent does not stay for event, will be granted a BYE.
Total of (10) cadets per team with a minimum of (3) females.
Shoes or boots (individual / instructor preference) will be worn at all times. Cadets are authorized to wear utilities or PT gear. This is done in order to save time from those competing right after their PFT.
There will only be (1) overall winner for this event, which is not part of the overall Skills Meet competition.
