The process has had a positive impact on the way in which enquiries are viewed and used by participants. All the staff who took part indicated that they found the process to be interesting and useful, and many enjoyed the opportunity to spend a greater amount of time focussing on one aspect of teaching and learning. Many also reported that they found it useful to hear ideas from colleagues working in a different age phase as this was not something that they have many opportunities to do and gave them a different perspective when considering the question.
The use of small group discussions focussed on a key question has also been a positive outcome of this process. Over the past month, staff have been reading and reflecting on some of the documentation which supports the development of our school level curriculum under Curriculum for Wales 2022. We have continued to use the approach of using small informal focus groups to consider, discuss and feed back on key questions around the nature of progression in learning, our school values and vision, how we might enact these values through our curriculum and the core knowledge, skills and experiences we want our children to leave us with. This has promoted a spirit of collegiality amongst staff and a recognition that through personal reflection and professional discussion, practitioners are able to find solutions to some of the challenges this will present.
