1. Watch this video which discusses the difference between interpreters and translators. Make sure you are able to tell me the difference when I ask you tomorrow!
2. Take these 2 Sporcle quizzes to see what you know about words in foreign languages.

3 Use the Google translator to see what words look like and sound like in various languages. What words look similar to English words? What does your name translate to? How do different languages look?
Some languages will let you listen to the words if you click on the speaker button at the bottom.
4. Watch this video describing why people should learn a language.
5. There are fee language learning sites online to help you. Try out the duolingo site and start learning the language of your choice.
You do not have to sign in or set up an account. Just choose a language and get started. You will continue with this until the end of class, or after at least 10 minutes, you can return to the Google translator.
6. Tomorrow, you will be asked to give one word you learned in a different language. Make it interesting and appropriate.
