Hello! Welcome to your student’s SENIOR YEAR!
Alecia Einspahr is the Director of Student Success this year and essentially, will handle all things academic. Whitney Soper is the 7-12 Counselor and will handle the majority of mental health-related issues. Both of us will co-sponsor the senior class.
This year will fly by for you and your student. We will try to email you as often as we can, but realize we will get busy and ultimately, it is up to your son or daughter to relay important information to you. Below are some topics we will have already discussed on the first day of school:
-FAFSA: There were some MAJOR changes to this program in the last couple of years. In our opinion, the best resource for FAFSA will be EducationQuest. This is a free resource with very knowledgeable staff. Use them! {In fact, use this site for anything college related.}
-Scholarships: Students have already been shown how to access the scholarships that we have vetted. We will also forward them emails containing scholarships as they come across our emails. It is their responsibility to fill these out, turn them in, and adhere to the deadlines. There are many free resources out there to help students locate scholarships. We have created a spreadsheet for each of them that will help them organize their scholarships. Please ask them to share it with you.
-ACT: Seniors should probably take the ACT at least once more before December. The higher the score, the more money they can receive. We will have fee waivers that will pay for the ACT if the student meets certain qualifications.
-Apply2College Workshop: This is an event that will occur in October. Seniors will be given time during school to apply to as many colleges as they wish. Many colleges are free to apply to at this time, so students should take advantage.
-Senior Meetings: Students will need to find a time in the first few weeks of classes to meet with one of us so we can do an audit check to ensure graduation. They will also collect their updated transcript and ACT scores.
-College Visit: Seniors will get to tour UNK and CCC on Wednesday, September 17th. They are also allotted a certain number of days during the school year to go on college visits with family.
-Graduation Diplomas: Parents will need to sign off on their student’s name/spelling. We plan to have a signature form during parent-teacher conferences. If you cannot attend, please set up a time with one of us to get this signed. We need to get it turned in to our regalia company prior to the end of the semester to allow time for the company to create the diplomas.
Please reach out if you have any questions!
