The PTHS Concert Band is the heart of our instrumental music program. The band is a non-auditioned ensemble of wind and percussion musicians from grades 9 through 12. We focus on developing strong fundamentals, ensemble skills, and expressive artistry. Our mission is to create performances that reflect musical excellence, creativity, and genuine passion for making music together.
Concert Band is an elective class that meets during Period 8. Students are encouraged to put this as your top elective and ask your guidance counselor about participating!
Students explore masterworks of the concert band repertoire alongside exciting contemporary selections. The PTHS Concert Band has performed at The NJ State Concert Band Festival and received a Gold Rating in 2024. We have also performed at Walt Disney World, and received a Superior rating at Music in the Parks in Busch Gardens, Virginia. In recent years, the band has had clinics with professors from Montclair State University, William Paterson University, and TCNJ and with members of the United States Marine Band. This year, the Concert Band has a scheduled clinic with a professor from Rutgers.
Our award-winning Marching Band is a staple of the Pequannock Community. The band is comprised of 8th-12th grade instrumentalists and Color Guard members. Marching Band is an extracurricular activity (technically a Fall Sport) that rehearses Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Saturdays during the Fall, in addition to Summer rehearsals and camp. The marching band performs at football games, competitions, and community performances such as the Memorial Day Parade. It is strongly recommended that instrumentals in Marching Band take Concert Band.
Our 2026 Open House is April 28, 2026,
at 7 pm in the PTHS Auditorium!
The Marching Band performed their show 'Treasures of a Lost Age' as their 2025 production. They received a Silver Medal and the Best Visual Caption in the New Jersey 3-Open State Champions, as well as fourth place in 3-Open National Competition. Some recent competitive accolades include being named the 2024 NJ Group 3-Open State Champions and the 2022 Group 4-A National Champions.
The PTHS Jazz Band is an audition-only extracurricular band for 9th-12th graders. Jazz Band aims to provide students with an educational experience that includes opportunities to perform quality jazz music, learn improvisation skills/techniques, deepen their relationship with music, and work collaboratively with their peers. The Jazz Band typically rehearses on Wednesday and Friday evenings and performs multiple times a year at PTHS, in addition to festivals. In 2025, the band received a Silver Rating at the New Jersey State Preliminary Festival, in addition to 'Best Trombones'.
The PTHS Indoor Percussion Ensemble is a performance group for percussionists and those interest in learning percussion.
Our group performs in a standstill format - focusing on musical excellence. Members grow in technique, listening skills, confidence, and performance quality as they prepare a full indoor show.
The ensemble rehearses Monday evenings throughout the Winter and early Spring, and will perform at PTHS as well as at least one competition during the season.
Indoor Percussion welcomes both new and experienced percussionist musicians. Students of all levels are encouraged to join, develop their musicianship, and experience the excitement of creating a powerful show together.
Their 2026 production is called 'Fade'.
The PTHS Winter Guard is an expressive performance ensemble that combines dance, flag, and equipment work to create visual and thematic shows set to music.
Winter Guard gives students the opportunity to refine their movement skills, musical interpretation, performance quality, and storytelling.
Our Winter Guard rehearses Tuesday and Thursday nights, in addition to Saturdays, throughout the Winter and early Spring. The guard performs at multiple competitions throughout their season in the MAIN Circuita and at a WGI Regional.
The ensemble welcomes beginner performers as well as experienced performers, offering a place for students to challenge themselves, build confidence, and connect with a passionate and inspiring community.
Their 2026 production is entitled 'The Fall of Icarus'.
PTHS also provides students with opportunities to perform in after-school Chamber Groups and a Wind Ensemble. These ensembles give students the chance to strengthen their technique, deepen their musical independence, and experience the unique setting of small-group performance. Our chamber offerings have included brass quintets, woodwind quintets, percussion ensembles, and mixed wind groups, allowing students to explore a wide range of repertoire and instrumentation.
