Here at Peninsula East Primary Academy we believe in Physical Education School Sport and Physical Activity (PESSPA) and promote the importance of the subject.
We believe it is important to give children the best possible outcome in life through our exciting and engaging Physical Education curriculum. We focus on the whole child learning, holistic approach, using technical based skill lessons that incorporate the social, physical and psychological aspects of the child while learning these skills and sports.
We do our best to hold and participate in a range of different sporting and healthy living events throughout the year to maintain the positive promotion of the PESSPA. These include sports clubs (football, multi sports and netball), swimming and water safety lessons and activity weeks (Healthy Living and Sports).
At Peninsula East Primary Academy we hold an annual Sports day in the Summer term, where the school houses compete against each other in a fun competitive environment. Throughout the year, inter-house competitions (multi-sports) and inter-school tournaments (swimming and football) across the trust, keep our children’s competitive nature ticking over.
Staff are encouraged to participate in PE’s Continuous Professional Development (CPD)to help develop their skills and increase their knowledge of the subject.
We encourage fun and active break times with a range of different activities including ball games, fundamental games and our amazing speed/reaction game. We have Playground Leaders, our year 6’s, who organise and run these events for each year group to participate and compete in.
Each class takes time out of their busy day to participate in physical activity breaks, brain breaks and yoga. This helps and encourages our children to stay energised, active and focused on their learning, whilst in their learning environment.
Staff also undertake CPD and training to allow them to take specific clubs, lessons and events, ensuring that our children receive top quality physical education at all times.
All of these activities, events and resources allow us to provide a comprehensive and engaging Physical Education Curriculum.
At Peninsula East Primary Academy we take part in a range of PE activities that take part outside of school. The children enjoy taking part in these events and are keen to participate. Mr Paton will be with us throughout the year working with the children in their PE lessons, during these sessions he works with the children on key skills that would support them during these events.

The Daily Mile
At Peninsula East Primary Academy, we take part in the Daily Mile. The Daily Mile is a social physical activity, with children running or jogging – at their own pace – in the fresh air with friends. Children can occasionally walk to catch their breath, if necessary, but should aim to run or jog for the full 15 minutes.
It takes place in 15 minutes, with most children averaging a mile, or more, each day.
Children run outside in the fresh air – and the weather is a benefit, not a barrier.
There’s no set up, tidy up, or equipment required.
No staff training is needed and there is no extra workload for teachers.
Children run in their uniforms so no kit or changing time is needed.
It’s social, non-competitive and fun.
The children return to class ready to learn.
It helps to improve fitness and achieve a healthy weight.
It encourages children to be aware of their health.
It’s fully inclusive; every child, whatever their circumstances, age or ability, succeeds at The Daily Mile.
