Remediation & Enrichment

Remediate - provide a remedy for; redress or make right.

When a student performs poorly (earning a grade of "D" or "F") in a subject the student is then afforded the opportunity to remediate that said course.

Enrichment - the action of improving or enhancing the quality or value of something.

Enrichment courses are scheduled extracurricular classes where a student may receive advanced academic instruction and/or discover new interests and activities outside the general classroom setting.

Pensacola Catholic High School students seeking remediation and/or enrichment options should note the following policies and considerations:

  • Students may only remediate courses in which they have earned a "D" or "F". "D" is a passing grade and is not required to be remediated, but it is optional. However, a student that earns an "F" in a course will not earn credit towards graduation. If the course is a graduation requirement then it MUST be remediated. The remediated grade does NOT replace the original grade earned at Catholic High but, is instead included and averaged into the students cumulative GPA.

  • Students may NOT take an enrichment course at another institution if it is offered at Pensacola Catholic High School. Enrichment courses are placed on the students Academic Transcript. However, the grade earned in an enrichment course is NOT factored into students cumulative GPA and is not used toward fulfillment of Catholic High School graduation requirements.

  • Students must meet program guidelines to register for an institution's programs or course of study.

  • Be prepared to provide proof of residency, parental/guardian consent or a co-enrollment form.

The most common option today for remediation and enrichment is through online sources, which may be available year round for students. Most of these are private and require a fee. Florida Virtual School is an online option and free for most students who are Florida residents. However, students who receive a state scholarship from Florida are cautioned from using Florida Virtual School as it may invalidate the students scholarship.

If a student is interested in remediating or taking an enrichment course it is recommended that you contact the Guidance Office before enrolling to ensure that you have selected an acceptable course and completed the required documents.
