Florida Bright Futures

The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program establishes lottery-funded scholarships to reward Florida high school graduates for high academic achievement.

Pensacola Catholic High School students have the opportunity to take courses that may deem them eligible for the Florida Department of Education's Florida Academic and Florida Medallion Scholar Programs!

***The eligibility requirements in this publication are subject to change with each legislative session.***

Both Florida Academic and Medallion Scholar Awards are made on the basis of a core GPA of 16 credits in a specified college preparatory curriculum and a standardized test score from either ACT or SAT.  ACT/SAT tests can be attempted until the end of the student's senior academic testing year (June).  Scores will be electronically submitted to the Florida Department of Education through a Florida Public College/University.  It is possible to composite scores from different test administrations.  SAT: best verbal combined with best math; ACT: best of each four sub-tests, divide by 4, round up from 0.5.  To be eligible for the Bright Future Scholarship, each student must file a Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA).  You can do this online at www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org commencing in October.

The Senior Advisor aids the students with the paperwork related to this.  The Florida Dept of Education will notify the student using the home address if an award is granted.  The student must be a Florida resident and attending a postsecondary school within the state of Florida. Students need to ensure that official ACT and SAT scores have been sent to the appropriate Florida Institution.  If the student does not use the award initially, the student must file a Reinstatement Application by June 1 for the next Academic year. The award must be reinstated by the fifth school year after graduation.  If the student transfers from one Florida institution to another, the student must notify the Office of Student Financial Assistance.
