Nick Terramani holds a Master of Music Education from the University of the Arts (2019) and a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Lebanon Valley College (2011). From an early age Nick was immersed in music, thanks to the influence of his father, Gene Terramani a well-known Philadelphia jazz guitarist. His father taught him how to play the bass guitar and instilled in him an appreciation of jazz. In high school, Nick was heavily involved in the music program participating in the marching band, symphonic band, jazz band, and pit orchestra. After learning the upright bass for his high school graduation project, Nick joined the orchestra his senior year. Nick was awarded the Bucks County Symphony Orchestra Scholarship.
At Lebanon Valley College, Nick was a member of their Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Band, and Small Jazz Ensemble. Nick began his teaching career in the Brandywine School District in Wilmington, DE, where he taught at the historic P.S. Dupont Middle School, Springer Middle School and Mount Pleasant High School. During the 2013-2014 school year at Springer, his orchestra was so popular, enrollment for his orchestra program doubled. Nick served as Jazz Band Director at Mount Pleasant High School where at the 2017 Fiestaval Competition in Williamsburg, VA, Nick was recognized for his leadership with the Award of Distinction for excellence in contributions to musicianship.
Returning to Pennsylvania, Nick worked for seven years at Tacony Academy Charter School. He taught many classes including orchestra, elementary general music, music technology, music history and choir. Nick helped improve the program by applying for programs that upgraded classroom instruments including a full classroom set of guitars, a full set of keyboards and a drum set. He also designed and taught new middle school electives such as beginner’s guitar, keyboard lab, rock band and history of pop.
Currently, Nick is a proud member of the Pennsbury Instrumental Music Department, where he is Director of Orchestras at Pennwood Middle School, Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary School and Quarry Hill Elementary School. He also serves as the Director of the Pennsbury Jazz Ensemble at Pennsbury High School and recently had the pleasure of accompanying the school to Paris, France.
Nick is a professional musician in the Philadelphia area, performing in a variety of ensembles, ranging from big band jazz to weddings and musical theater productions. He is a member of the Philadelphia jazz band “Drivetime” and has recently recorded an album featuring collaborations with saxophonist Andrew Neu and pianist Yulia Petrova. Additionally, Nick has recorded two albums with Philadelphia blues guitarist Geoff Hansplant.
