Kevin Haugland

Kevin Haugland is currently in his first year as a member of the Pennsbury Instrumental Music Department and is currently the director of bands at Quarry Hill, Penn Valley, and Edgewood Elementary Schools. 

Kevin attended Kutztown University of Pennsylvania where he earned his bachelors of science in music education while playing the saxophone. During his time at KU Kevin was part of the Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble 1, Marching Band (serving as drum major for two of his four years), Saxophone Quartet, and various other groups. The Kutztown University music department allowed him the opportunity to perform in various locations such as, the Kennedy Center, The Lincoln Center, The Kimmel Center, and more. 

Upon completing his undergraduate degree, Kevin taught within various school districts in the Pocono region of Pennsylvania, teaching grades 4-12 at one time or another. During his time in the Pocono region, Kevin was able to have students participate in district, region, and state festivals, earn top chairs in various honors groups, and create new performance opportunities for his students. Kevin was also an active member of PMEA, serving as his district's Audition Coordinator for three years.

Prior to leaving northeastern Pennsylvania, Kevin began in graduate studies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign as part of a three-summer long masters of music education program. While at U of I, Kevin studied under Dr. Janet Barrett, Dr. Jeanne Nichols, Dr. Adam Kruse, and Dr. Louis Bergonzi, studying the aspects of interdisciplinary music education, popular music pedagogy, assessments within an ensemble setting, hip-hop music education, social justice, and more. 

Among his educational experiences, Kevin is an active freelance saxophone player, performing in concert bands, wind ensembles, jazz ensembles and various rock groups in the area. Kevin currently lives in New Jersey with his fiance, Laura and his two cats, Bobbie and Beau!
