Supports Coordinator?

PUNS Waitlist?

Waiver Funding?

If your child has a diagnosis of an Intellectual Disability and/or Autism, they may be eligible for a Supports Coordinator.  The Office of Developmental Programs will determine if your child is Eligible for this Service.  If found eligible,  family will choose a Provider for the Supports Coordinator (SC).  The SC will begin working with family and remain part of your team for your child's life.  As your child's need change, so will the resources that the SC will help you select.

A Support Coordinator will determine level of support and care needed of your child. The SC will then place your child's name on the PUNS List which is the waitlist for Waiver Funding.  Waiver Funding is the money your child/family will use to pay for the supports/care your child needs to participate in the community.

Social Security?

Can I work and Receive Benefits?

You child may be eligible for Social Security Benefits.   (SSI)

Who can get SSI?  People with low income and few resources who are age 65 or older, blind, or have a disability, may be able to get SSI. Other requirements are on page 17. We consider people age 18 or older “disabled” if they have a physical or mental condition (or combination of conditions) that keeps them from working. The condition must be expected to last at least 12 months or result in death. We consider a child younger than age 18 “disabled” if the child has a physical or mental condition (or combination of conditions) that results in “marked and severe functional limitations.” The condition must be expected to last at least 12 months or result in death. For more information about benefits for children, read Benefits for Children With Disabilities (Publication No. 05-10026).

You’ll get Medicare coverage automatically after you’ve received disability benefits for two years. You can find more information about the Medicare program, in Medicare (Publication No. 05-10043).

The Ticket to Work program: Under this program, Social Security and Supplemental Security Income disability beneficiaries can get help with training and other services they need to go to work at no cost to them. Most disability beneficiaries are eligible to participate in the Ticket to Work program and can select an approved provider of their choice who can offer the kind of services they need. To learn more about this program, ask for Your Ticket To Work (Publication No. 05-10061).
