Hallo! Ich heisse Frau Amy DiFazio...
My name is Amy DiFazio and this is my 27.5th year teaching German at Pennsbury. My experience at Pennsbury didn't start after I graduated college. Back in the eighth grade, at the old William Penn Middle School, I was a quiet, shy new student who transferred in from Florence, NJ. Because of my late enrollment, I was put in German for my foreign language of study, despite my preference being French. Things have a funny way of working out.
It didn't take long for the zany Herr Gutz (aka Professor Wienerschneider) to make German my favorite subject! During my high school years I was also inspired by my art and English teachers. In these classes, some of my best friends and memories were made. I owe a lot of gratitude to Herr Gutz, Mr. Barto and Dr. Waskie, who creatively and enthusiastically presented their content; they were instrumental in my decision to major in education. And, so... my excitement for learning and later teaching were both inspired by them. Being an officer of Pennsbury's Foreign Language Club and participating in Pennsbury's German-American Partnership Program were two impactful experiences that Pennsbury extended to me. Studying abroad undoubtedly helped foster new friendships, enriched my learning experience, opened my mind, and instilled great confidence in me, which, in turn, helped my transition to college tremendously.
I attended college at Lock Haven University and studied German and English, earning a B.S. in Secondary Education for both. Loved my time at The Haven! During my junior year, I studied abroad at the Universität Paderborn in Paderborn, Germany and graduated with experience student-teaching at Bensalem High School (English) and Medill Bair High School / Pennsbury (German).
After spending a year teaching English at Bensalem, I was happy to come back home in '97, teaching German in one of the same classrooms I once sat as a timid sixteen year old. Throughout my years at Pennsbury, I added English, Honors Practicum, and Service Learning to my resume and have chaperoned the summer school abroad trip to Germany as well. In 2004 I received a M.A. degree in English/Literary Criticism from Arcadia University.
At present I live in the Pennsbury community with my husband and two daughters. When I'm not Deutsch sprechen, I'm making memories with my family, creating art or working on home improvements. Some of my favorite things are sunflowers, summer days, Dunkin Donuts Coffee and art. Dislikes? -math, winter, squirrels and vinegar.
At Pennsbury I enjoy teaching German, advising Deutschklub and coordinating the GAPP Program and/or tours of Germany with my Pennsbury colleagues.
Naja...genug über mich!
