Meet the Teacher!
Ms. Alana Wood
Experience
I studied fine arts and art education at Southeastern Missouri State University, and hold an Associate Degree in Fine Arts and a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Education. This is my fifth year of teaching, and my second year at Pennoyer!
Hobbies and Interests
I love everything creative, everything cute, and everything colorful! I absolutely LOVE doing any kind of art, and will experiment in any medium including digital, paint pens, marker, ink, watercolor, fibers- you name it. Aside from art, I also enjoy cooking and baking, creative writing, decorating, playing video games, and watching movies.
Educational Philosophy
Everyone has a different idea about what art is, what makes art good, and what art is for. My personal philosophy is that art is, above all, communication! Whenever you make art, you are saying something. You're saying, "This is what I like," "This is what is important to me," "This is who I am," "This is what you should care about," and so on. Not every student is going to grow up to become a professional artist, but every single student is going to grow up to become a communicator.Â
My goal in teaching art is to give students a space to practice their verbal and non-verbal communication through artistic expression and experimentation. We can use art to explore the world, and more importantly, to explore ourselves as people.
Let's create together!
Here's some of my art!
