Basic Information about Track & Field

Track and field is a sport comprised of various events, which include running, jumping, and throwing. Individual athletes compete to win each event and score points for their teams. Points are also awarded for second, third, fourth places etc. The events in modern Track and Field can be traced back thousands of years to the Olympic Games of ancient Greece. By training for and competing in track and field you will be able to participate in the oldest form of sport while getting in better physical condition and proving to yourself what you are able to do. The Winter Track season is officially called Indoor Track & Field, but the majority of our meets will be on outdoor tracks in what are called “Polar Bear Meets.” There are only 3 official size indoor tracks in the state so we will rarely compete indoors. There are a few indoor invitationals we may enter, but generally athletes will only run indoors if they qualify for the State Championships at JDL FastTrack in Winston-Salem.
