Every attempt is made to complete all assignments in class. This policy helps reduce the need for students to carry materials between home and school. Additionally, we intend for the students to have time away from their studies so that they may decompress and process what they have experienced and learned during their school day.
However, assignments that are not completed prior to the end of the class will become homework for the student. Any assignment that is homework will have a due date assigned, and the student should have the information written into their agenda.

To the greatest extent possible, standards based grading will be used to assess student understanding of grade level content. In instance where there is little or insufficient supporting evidence of multiple standards for a given problem or question, the student will be assessed for accuracy.
Students that provide no work, explanation, justification, or supporting evidence for any answer, will assessed for accuracy, as there will be no means by which to evaluate other educational standards. We ask that you encourage your student to always write out their problems, or provide some explanation so that a fair assessment of student understanding can be made.
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that students are not waiting until the last minute to complete assignments, or staying up late to complete assignments that may be due the next day. We would rathe the student get a good night's rest, and to be prepared to learn the next day, over staying up to finish their homework and be lethargic and sleepy during their classes.
A late assignment is any assignment that is not completed by the stated date and time. In most instances, a deadline is set for either 10 PM or the start of the next class. It does not matter if the assignment is late by 1 minute, 1 hour, 1 day, or 1 week. The students are informed that late is late, and that they should be focused on the accuracy and full completion of the assignment prior to submitting.
Students are expected to complete assignments in a timely manner. A connection to task completion in everyday life is used as an analogy for the completion of the students assignments. As a means of recognizing the importance of timeliness, 20% of an assignments value is allocated for the completion of the assignment by the provided due date. The following equations are used in determining the grade of assignment
Score of assignment x .80 = Final grade for the assignment
Example: Student scores a 95% on their late assignment.
95% x .8 = 76%
Final score for the assignment will be a 76%
Progress or interim reports are released approximately 4.5 weeks after the start of a quarter. Any grade that is seen on the progress report should be considered more accurate than PowerSchool. The reason for this is that at times, grades for an assignment may not be entered or released until all assignments have been graded. Additionally, there is classroom participation grades that are factored into the final grade, along with extra credit and alternative assessments.
A parent, legal guardian, or student may ask for a current grade and a list of missing assignments at any time. However, it should be noted that any assignment that is incomplete, or missing, will be listed in PowerSchool as such. Assignments that are late will still be accepted under the late policy until the end of the quarter.
All grades for quarter become final two days before the end of the quarter. Any missing assignments must be completed and turned in before this deadline to ensure that there is time for me to grade the assignment. Parents are encouraged to review their student's PowerSchool grades, and monitor for missing assignments.
Extra credit assignments will be provided through the year. Extra credit will either be a project that the student can submit, or bonus questions on a summative assessment. Project based extra credit will be listed in Google Classroom for the associated subject. Students are encouraged to make an attempt at the extra credit. Any attempt at extra credit or bonus questions cannot hurt the student's academic standing.
For any summative assessment, where a bonus question is provided, students will be given the option of either completing or not completing the bonus question. This choice is documented when the student marks one of two check boxes. An example of this choice is shown
