Here is the information I gave to students during the second week of school, to make it clear how grades will be handled in Spanish class.
How will Spanish grades work in Middle School?
You will be graded on assignments and participation starting in 6th grade. These grades WILL count toward your academic eligibility in sports and cocurricular activities.
There are five categories of grades: Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening, and Culture. Each of these count as 20% of your grade.
Because we only meet once per week, missed assignments will be graded as a zero, but may be made up for full credit within two weeks. Participation will be graded as a speaking grade every 8 weeks.
There is time in class to complete all assignments and quizzes, but if you are absent, it is up to you to find time to meet with the teacher. I am here each morning very early (before and during ASK), if you need extra help.
I want you to be successful, I will support you as much as I can. I cannot, however, do the work for you. It is up to you to earn your grade.
10/20/2025 Some examples of sugar skulls in progress, and completed. Sugar skulls are a fun way for people to honor the dead during Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. Día de los Muertos is celebrated from October 31-November 2 in Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries in Central America.
