IMPORTANCE OF GOOD QUALITY PRIMARY EDUCATION
Attending a good primary school has more impact on a child's academic progress than gender or family background, says the Institute of Education (UK).
Their study tracked more than 3000 children from different economic backgrounds and found the quality of teaching in a school had a much deeper impact on student success by age 11 than their economic background or whether they received free school meals etc. While all children benefit from a good primary school, a high quality school is particularly important for children with special educational needs, those with mothers with low qualifications or children who come from homes 'without a stimulating learning environment' according to the study.
Parents who are serious about providing the best quality of education for their children should therefore avoid schools with overcrowded classrooms where teachers are often unable to provide individual attention that each child requires.
Pelkhil School provides primary students with the best student-teacher ratio that enables teachers to provide very close attention to each student. We provide Cambridge curricula to supplement Bhutanese textbooks for English, Maths and Science. We were therefore not surprised that in 2016 our class III students were ranked in the Top 5 nationwide in the common exams. At the same time, Pelkhil School is not an exam-oriented school. We believe in true wholesome education. We provide the greatest variety of extra-curricular activities among schools in Thimphu to promote real wholesome education.
