In ancient Mesopotamia, the meaning of life was for one to live side by side with the gods. Humans were created with their gods to work for there gods. According to the Mesopotamian creation myth, the Enuma Elish, life began after a war between the elder gods and the younger gods. These younger gods were so loud with each other that they came to annoy the elders, especially Apsu after he got advice from his advisor he decided to kill them. Apsu died in the process. Tiamat, Apsu's wife got upset about his death and raised the forces of chaos to destroy the younger gods herself. Marduk swore he would defeat Tiamat if the gods would make him their king. This they agreed to and he entered into battle with Tiamat, killing her and from her body he created the sky. There were many gods in Mesopotamian myths. (BE)
