English 9

Welcome to English 9! 

The emphasis in the ninth grade English is on the continual development of skills related to reading, writing, speaking and listening. The course in literature includes the study of selected short stories and flash-fiction, drama/plays, several novels, poetry and independent readings. In this course, the reading and writing programs inform and reflect one another so that they are very closely linked. Writing assignments are the outgrowth of discussions and concerns arising from selections read in class and from outside reading. Composition focuses mainly on expository writing, the development of a theme, and the logical organization of ideas. Grammar, usage, and punctuation are reviewed, and corrective and/or expanded techniques are prescribed as student compositions demonstrate specific strengths, weaknesses, and style.
