English 10

Welcome to English 10! 

The emphasis in the tenth grade is on the refinement of skills related to reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Students read the works of selected British and Western authors to broaden their literary background and to develop their close reading and critical thinking skills. While analyzing the literature, students will cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support their interpretations. The writing program is directly related to the reading program, as students will draw on their understanding of the literature, in a variety of writing assignments that include journal entries and narrative writing, extended responses, formatted paragraphs, and formal writing assignments, to establish claims that are supported in an organized and coherent response.
