The main job of a facilitator is to guide the students through the L.E.A.R.N. Dialogue process while fostering an atmosphere of respect, support, and care.
To create this respectful environment, the facilitator ensures that everyone commits to the C.A.R.I.N.G. Communication Agreements and makes sure these principles are practiced throughout the dialogue.
As a facilitator, it’s important to stay neutral and positive. A great way to respond to comments is with phrases like, “Thank you for your comment.” or “I hear you saying…” followed by paraphrasing what was said. This shows you’re engaged and helps your participants clarify their thoughts. You can also invite more contributions by asking, “What would others like to share?” or “Let’s hear from others in the circle.”
While keeping a calm and friendly tone is essential, it’s equally important to maintain progress through the dialogue and stick with your time commitment. If you ask for an hour, be sure to keep to that hour.
