PSPB '20-'21

Veronica Roderick

Veronica is a senior majoring in Public Health Studies: Community Health Promotion and Urban & Public Affairs. She's Co-Director of PSPB and has been on the board for three years. When she isn’t studying she likes to travel, cook gluten-free and vegan food, clean her room, and perfect her google calendar. Her future plans are to spread love and encourage the importance of preventive health care.

Katie Hulshizer

Katie will be graduating at the end of this fall with a bachelor’s in communication, along with a sociology minor. She has been a member of PSPB since joining as an event planner in 2017. Although uncertain of the career she would like to pursue after her time at PSU, Katie is certain that being a part of the PSPB team will be a valuable and worthwhile experience. Her hobbies include crafting, cooking vegetarian cuisine, and antiquing.

Guinevere Lawrence

Guinevere is a junior majoring in Applied Linguistics and working towards a TESL (teaching English as a second language) certification. After graduation, she hopes to teach English abroad and learn the language(s) of wherever she goes. In August of 2020, she joined PSPB as a Co-Director, excited to support the PSU community through programming. In her free time, Guinevere enjoys baking, taking care of plants, and listening to music.

Safia Ali Noor

This is Safia Ali Noor’s second year as an event planner for PSPB. She is a senior biochemistry major. She plans to attend graduate school after obtaining her bachelor's degree. Safia enjoys growing vegetables and cooking. She is excited this year to put on many great events for the community. Safia also enjoys connecting with community members and giving back to the community, which helps shape her character.

Anya Dhall

Anya is a third-year student studying Finance through the PSU School of Business Honors program. She was born and raised in Portland and has been an event planner with PSPB since Fall of 2019. In her free time, Anya enjoys playing basketball and taking pictures, and has been using quarantine as an opportunity to build up her personal photography business and website. Upon graduation, Anya plans to work and travel for a couple of years before she moves on to pursue an MBA degree.

Melissa Macfarlane

Melissa is an event planner for the Portland State Programming Board, fall 2019 will be her first year on the board. Melissa received her associates in Business Administration at Portland Community College and is now on her second year at PSU working towards her bachelors in Marketing Management. If Melissa is not working or studying Melissa enjoys her free time by spending it with family and her dog.

Vanessa Corral

Vanessa is currently a senior majoring in Social Work and minoring in Spanish. This will be her first year on the board. She is excited to plan events and meet new people. In her free time she enjoys spending time outside hiking and enjoying nature. She loves exploring Portland and new places to eat at.

Ashley Placek

Ashley is a junior in the Honors College at PSU, double majoring in Sonic Arts & Music Production and Environmental Science. She is excited to join the board this year and help plan some awesome events. Born in small-town Wisconsin with more cows in sight than people, Ashley moved to Oregon in 2017 and has loved the PNW ever since. In her free time, she loves to play guitar and sing, draw, hike, learn languages, and read books. Upon graduation, Ashley plans to travel then pursue field climate change research, and continue to build her music portfolio by making a full-length album.

Jessica Lam

Jess is a senior double majoring in Social Science and Liberal Studies, as well as double minoring in Sociology and Community Development. She joined PSPB wanting to gain event planning experience and meet new people. Her addiction to bananas are beyond anyone's imagination so do not be surprised if you ever catch her on campus with one in her hand(s)! Although she loves to snack at school, Jess enjoys working out at the Rec Center and has been very involved in many cultural organizations since she started her college journey at PSU.

Amy Dang

Amy is a transferred student from PCC. This is her first year as a student at PSU and as an event planner for Portland State Programming Board. Amy majors in International Development Studies. She loves community and student-life activities. In her free time, Amy enjoys hiking in nature, making different dishes from around the world, and practicing choreography.

Jaimie

Jaimie is a transfer student, holding degrees in Music and Biology. She is currently a Junior at PSU pursuing Chemistry with a minor in Music. Although new to the board, she has been working in the event planning, promotion, and brand representation industries since 2013. An avid world traveler, her favorite destinations are Osaka and Pahoa, for now. When found in the wild, she is often eating copious amounts of bread. In her free time, she also enjoys listening to emo music, giving snuggles to her chihuahua and tabby, practicing guitar, painting, playing video games, or pretending to be a cryptid.

PSPB '19-'20

Katie Hulshizer

Katie has been with PSPB since 2017. She is currently entering her senior year at PSU and is pursuing a bachelor of arts in communication studies with a minor in sociology. Katie values teamwork and strives to bring a valuable perspective to her work while learning from her peers and teammates on the board. Her hobbies include painting, thrifting, cooking vegetarian food, and exploring Portland!

Veronica Roderick

Veronica is a junior majoring in Public Health Studies: Community Health Promotion and Urban & Public Affairs. After being an event planner for a year she has now stepped into the role of Co-Director for the board. When she isn’t studying she likes to travel, cook gluten-free and vegan food, clean her room, and perfect her google calendar. Her future plans are to spread love and encourage the importance of preventive health care.

Brittney Miller

Brittney is a sophomore majoring in biology on the pre-veterinarian track and minoring in civic leadership. She hopes to be a large animal veterinary for zoos all around the world. Brittney has been an event planner for the Portland State Programming Board since Fall 2018. Brittney was born in Portland and has lived here all her life. When Brittney isn’t busy planning an event she enjoys spending time with her dog, camping, eating food, and scrolling Pinterest. Brittney also loves meeting new people so feel free to come say hi at one of our events!

Victoria Solares

Victoria is going into her senior year majoring in Psychology. She is originally from Silverton, OR and transferred to PSU as a junior from a local community college. This will be her first year as an event planner and she is extremely excited. Victoria has been involved in various aspects of the campus, working as an admission representative and as an Orientation Leader during the summer. Victoria enjoys exploring Oregon, drinking coffee and meeting new people.

Julia Strunk

Julia is originally from Cincinnati and recently relocated to Oregon in 2017. She is going into her junior year, studying psychology with a minor in business. She has been with the board since Fall 2018. The programming board has given her many opportunities to meet diverse people and communities throughout campus. In her free time she enjoys baking desserts, sewing new clothes, and organizing her and her friend’s lives.

Anya Dhall

Anya Dhall is a sophomore studying accounting and finance through the PSU School of Business Honors program. She was born and raised in Beaverton, OR has been an event planner for PSPB since Fall 2019. In her free time, she enjoys playing basketball and taking pictures. Upon graduation, Anya plans to move to the east coast to pursue her Master's degree in Finance

Sara Herrejon Chavez

Sara is a senior at Portland State, studying Environmental Studies and minoring in Biology and Sustainability. This is her first year on the PSPB team and is very excited to finish out her chapter at PSU as part of the planning board committee. After graduation, she is planning to take a year off of school to look for graduate school programs that are a good fit for her. In her free time she loves going on scenic picnics or taking a stroll through spooky graveyards.

Safia Ali Noor

This is Safia Ali Noor’s first year as an event planner for PSPB. She is a junior biochemistry major. She plans to attend graduate school after obtaining her bachelor's degree. Safia enjoys growing vegetables and cooking. She is excited this year to put on many great events for the community.

PSPB '18-'19

She was an Event Planner on the the board for a year and is starting her first year as Co-Director. In Fall, Veronica is traveling to Nepal where she will volunteer as a Medicinary with a non-profit organization. When she isn’t studying she likes to cook gluten-free and vegan cuisine, clean her room, and organize her google calendar. Her future plans are to spread love and encourage the importance of preventive health care.

Lindsey Pham

Lindsey is an international student from Vietnam and this is her second year being the Co-Director of PSPB. Lindsey is a senior pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Logistics and Supply chain management. She has 3 years of experiences working in event planning, and she is trying her best to contribute to PSPB and the PSU community with as many cool events as possible for students. She loves cooking, loves people, loves making friends and hanging out! Traveling to new places and eating new food are her top favorite things to do. She has been to 13 states within her 4 years in the US, and 7 countries! Lindsey values the skills she has learned as a Co-Director as well as the relationships she gained from the board, and she would love to help others to have as good experiences in higher education as her.

Katie has been with PSPB since the 2017 summer term when she first joined as an event planner and later became one of the Co-Directors in entering the 2018/19 school year. She is currently entering her senior year at PSU and is pursuing a bachelor of arts in communication studies with a minor in sociology. Although uncertain of the career she would like to pursue upon graduating from PSU, Katie is certain that being a part of the PSPB team will be a valuable and worthwhile experience. Event Planning for PSPB is the perfect opportunity to apply her creative skills to projects which will benefit the entire PSU community. Katie values teamwork and strives to bring a valuable perspective to her work while learning from her peers and teammates. Her hobbies include painting, cooking vegetarian cuisine, and exploring Portland!

Jeff Martinez

Jeffrey Martinez is studying his undergraduate in the Karl Miller School of Business at Portland State University, with an academic focus in management and civic leadership. He began his journey on the Portland State Programming Board as an event planner, Fall 2018 when he transferred from PCC-Sylvania as director of programs and events. In addition to planning events, he represents student parents on the Child Development Advisory Board and plans PSU’s annual Culturally Responsive Symposium with the Diversity Action Council sub-committee. A fun fact about Jeffrey is he enjoys playing guitar with his local musical act- Here’s Your Warning.

Chela Shiroma

Chela is a junior majoring in psychology. She has been an event planner for PSPB since fall 2018. Chela was born and raised in Hilo, Hawaii and transferred to PSU after her first year at University of Hawaii. On her free time she enjoys being with friends, making breakfast, or exploring new parts of Portland. She plans to move on to graduate school after obtaining her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology.

Mia Nako

Mia Nako is an Event Planner for PSPB, this will be her second year in this position. She is a junior majoring in Environmental Studies. She does not know what she would like to pursue after college but all she wants is to utilize her education to give back to the environment and her community. Mia has been involved in event planning and leadership since high school and enjoyed it so much that she wanted to continue doing it in college. Mia is also a part of the PSU Pacific Islanders Club, where she also practices event planning and leadership.

Brittney Miller

Brittney is a freshman majoring in biology, attending the pre-veterinary program, she hopes to be a large animal veterinary for zoos all around the world. Michelle Chan

Michelle is a post-baccalaureate student, on the pre-nursing track, in hopes of becoming a pediatric nurse. She has her previous degree in social sciences with a minor in psychology. She has been an event planner for the Programming Board for two years and has also been involved with the Portland State Food Pantry and The Student Community Engagement Center as a student leader. Food, arcade and board games, hanging with friends and boyfriend, being outdoors, and going on adventures are a few of her joys in life. She also loves meeting new people, making and baking food for people as well, so stop by to say hi and for some homemade mochi.

Alondra Hernandez

Alondra is a Senior this year majoring in Social Work and minoring in Psychology. She is originally from St. Paul, OR and has been a part of the PSU community for four years now. She is active on campus as a Student Ambassador, Student Admissions Representative as well as Director of the Social Worker Student Association. Alondra is planning on attending Grad School in Denver, Colorado after she graduates this spring! She loves working with people, engaging in community work and service as well. She loves to run, listen to music, and explore the Oregon outdoors. She has had a great time on the Programming Board as an Event Planner!

Julia Strunk

Julia is originally from Cincinnati and recently relocated to Oregon. She is going into her sophomore year and is currently studying psychology with a minor in business. Julia hopes to meet a lot of diverse people all across campus and connect with them. She am very excited to plan events across campus and get to know the campus more.
