Robert Wall Emerson, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Blindness and Low Vision Studies at Western Michigan University. He has a B.Ed. in English/Science education, a M.S. in teaching children with visual impairments, and a Ph.D. in Special Education. He has 30 years of experience as an itinerant teacher of children with visual impairments and O&M Specialist teaching children with visual impairments from toddlers to young adults. He conducted research on transportation, pedestrian issues, braille, acoustics, and related themes for over 25 years. Dr. Wall Emerson has been research editor for the Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness since 2012 and was recently elected to membership of the Pedestrian Committee of the Transportation Research Board.
