Many COE programs utilize the co-teaching model in field placements. In this model:

  • the CT and the TC work together with groups of students, sharing the planning, organization, delivery and assessment of instruction, as well as the physical space.

  • CT and TC are actively involved and engaged in all aspects of instruction.

  • This model differs from traditional student teaching in which the cooperating teacher turns over the classroom to the candidate for several weeks in a row.

  • Research has shown that the co-teaching model benefits the entire learning community.
