ArcGIS Desktop & ArcGIS Pro
Latest Version: ArcGIS Desktop 10.8.2 and ArcGIS Pro 3.1 (with Pro 3.1's forth service patch-3.1.4, that needs to be installed separately). If you plan to use ArcGIS for a course, please check with the instructor which version their course is using. Students may encounter significant differences between their course materials and their installed software if they choose to install a newer version than the version that their class is using.
Download the software here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1x7ukxjNXEZ4cVuD8jLqvmdZKDKfag2YP?usp=sharing. You need to log on to your PSU ODIN account to access the Google share folder
System Requirements
ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro can only be installed on a computer with a Windows operating system.
Check ArcGIS Desktop 10.X system requirements and ArcGIS Pro system requirements pages to make sure that your computer has the hardware and software required.
Installation Programs and License Information
ArcGIS Desktop (i.e., ArcMap) is licensed through a single-user .prvc license file. ArcGIS Pro is licensed through the user's ArcGIS Online account (see the instructions below).
You can download ArcGIS Desktop (and its .prvc license file) and ArcGIS Pro installation programs using the link provided above.
If you have an earlier version of ArcGIS Pro, then you can use ArcGIS Pro's "Software Update" function to upgrade to the latest version. The software update function can be found on the Project tab, under About. You will need admin privilege to perform the upgrade.
ArcGIS Pro
Bug: Duo push is crashing ArcGIS Pro (3.1.3 or prior versions)
PSU ODIN single-sign-on login crashes ArcGIS Pro. ArcGIS Pro closes after users log on into their PSU ODIN account.
Solution and Workaround
At the bottom of the log-in dialog window, click the Sign In Using Browser option. Complete the log-in process in the browser. Users are redirected back to the application upon successful login.
ArcGIS Pro 3.1.4 (ArcGIS Pro 3.1 Patch 4) and later versions have the issue fixed. You can find the installation programs of the patch file (ArcGIS_Pro_314_185014.msp) and newer ArcGIS Pro versions in the shared Google folder (see the link at the top of the page.
Signing In ArcGIS Pro
If you already have a PSU ArcGIS Online account and a valid ArcGIS Pro license through the PSU AGO, then follow the steps below to sign in to ArcGIS Pro. If you don't have a PSU ArcGIS Online account or a valid ArcGIS Pro license, then see the "Activating an ArcGIS Pro License" section below.
Start ArcGIS Pro.
Click on "Your ArcGIS organization's URL" link on the logon dialog window.
Enter "pdxedu" as the prefix to the ArcGIS organization's URL. Click "CONTINUE."
Click on "PORTLAND STATE" button and log on with your PSU ODIN account credential.
Activating an ArcGIS Pro License
ArcGIS Pro is currently authenticated through PSU ArcGIS Online Portal. Users need to logon to PSU ArcGIS Online to activate their ArcGIS Account. See the ArcGIS Online page for information about using the PSU ArcGIS Online Portal.
PSU ArcGIS Online account activated after July 1, 2019 will have access to ESRI E-Learning and an ArcGIS Pro license assigned to the account automatically. There is no need to submit further requests. If your PSU ArcGIS Online account was activated before July 1, 2019 and that you have verified that you don't have an ArcGIS Pro license attached to your PSU ArcGIS Online account, then, after your AGO account is activated, please send your PSU ArcGIS Account ID (i.e., odin ID with _pdxedu suffix) to Geoffrey Duh (jduh@pdx.edu) to request an ArcGIS Pro license.
ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap)
Note to ArcGIS Desktop (i.e., ArcMap) Users
IMPORTANT NOTE: ArcGIS 10.8.2 is the current release of ArcMap and will continue to be supported until March 01, 2026. ESRI does not have plans to release an ArcMap 10.9 with the ArcGIS releases in 2021. This means the 10.8.x series will be the final release series of ArcMap and will be supported until March 01, 2026. Please refer to the ArcGIS 10.8 deprecation plan.
ArcGIS Desktop Installation
If you have an EVA authorization code (instead of a .prvc file), then you must do this first:
Visit www.esri.com/educationedition to begin the process of activating your ArcGIS Desktop software.
Log in using your PSU ODIN account with the Enterprise logon option (if you have already activated your PSU ArcGIS Online single-sign-on account), or your existing Esri public account, or sign-up for a new Esri account (do not use your ODIN pdx.edu email account when signing up a new Esri public account).
Enter the authorization code (the 12-digit number beginning with "EVA") and click Activate ArcGIS.
Click the button for the ArcGIS for Desktop software version being activated.
If necessary, install the Microsoft .NET Framework (version 3.5 Service Pack 1 or higher). If you are unsure if you have the .NetFramework installed, you can download a .net Version detector from this site.
Make sure that you log on to the computer as an administrator. Double-click on ArcGIS_Desktop_10XXXXXXX.exe to extract the installation files. Depending on the version you selected, the file extensions may be different.
Locate and run Setup.exe to install ArcGIS for Desktop. The “Complete” installation is recommended.
After the files are installed, the Authorization Wizard will open and prompt you to choose a product to authorize; select “ArcGIS Desktop Advanced (Single Use)” and click continue.
Depending on whether you have a .prvc license file or an authorization code, follow the license activation instructions below to complete license activation. See the steps from 11 on this page (https://oit.colorado.edu/tutorial/arcgis-desktop-install-authorize) for using a .prvc license file to activate your ArcMap license.
If you don't provide an activated authorization number or a .prvc license file during installation, you will need to use the ArcGIS Administrator tool to activate the software after the installation or just double-click on the .prvc license file to open the Authorization Wizard.
