What are Alternative Clinical Skills projects?
FORWARD staff understands that sometime interns my face barriers to getting all of their Clinical Learning Community (CLC) hours in each term. We are dedicated to providing you with options to ensure you can fulfill all of your required CLC hours this coming academic year.
We have put together a variety of modules designed to encourage continued scholarly and learning growth in a remote format in the event that your CLC work does not fulfill your hourly requirements. This curated list of projects is designed to support the development of key skills to be successful in scientific clinical settings and cover a variety of topics and disciplines.
If you are struggling to fill your CLC hours, you can request to complete a portion of your hours using our alternative clinical skills curriculum. You can see the steps of this process below.
How do I request to use the Alternative Clinical Skills curriculum?
Meet with Dr. Shandee Dixon.
Prior to requestion an Alternative Clinical Skills Curriculum, FORWARD Interns must ensure you have met with Dr. Shandee Dixon to discuss your concerns with completing your CLC hours for the term. This makes sure that we've looked at all options for Interns and that Alternative Clinical Skills projects are explained fully.
Review the List
Interns can review the list of Alternative Clinical Skills projects and choose one or more that they would like to complete.
Complete Alternative Clinical Skills Form
Interns should complete the Alternative Clinical Skills Request Form and indicate which projects and how many hours they would like to complete using the Alternative Clinical Curriculum and which module(s) they would like to complete.
Make sure the Form was emailed to you
You will get this completed form emailed to you.
Discuss your request form with your CLC Mentor
You will share your request with your CLC Mentor to have a discussion. You will need to recieve written/email approval for the number of hours since that is a decrease in your commitment to the CLC.
Send your approval to psuforward@pdx.edu
FORWARD Staff will reach out
We will contact you if your form is approved, request additional information, or is denied.
If you have approval to skip CLC Mentor approval, please skip Steps 5-6
