The Discover Internships in Semiconductor Careers (DISC) program at Portland State University (PSU) connects industry leaders with highly motivated STEM students. DISC recruits and screens qualified candidates to match your organization’s internship project needs, allowing host companies to interview top applicants and select the best fit for their team. To host a DISC intern, please submit a Partner Interest Form.
The Internship Experience
The Internship Experience
DISC interns conduct hands-on projects under the direct supervision of an industry mentor, advancing organizational goals while developing key technical and professional skills.
Duration & Hours: 300 hours of internship work completed between January 1 and September 30, 2027.
Professional Development: Interns receive an additional 30 hours of specialized professional development training at PSU.
Flexibility: Interviewing applicants carries no obligation to accept a candidate if a suitable match is not identified.

Our candidate pool consists of PSU undergraduate juniors and seniors majoring in key technical disciplines, including:

Physics & Chemistry
Mathematics, Data Science & Environmental Science
Funding & Support
Funding & Support
Funding supporting intern stipends is available for through DISC’s grant sources, including:
Frontier of Advanced Semiconductor Technologies (FAST)
National Network for Microelectronics Education (NNME) Pacific Intermountain (PINES)
Host organizations can take advantage of these funding opportunities based on availability. Alternatively, companies can elect to fund internship positions at a standard rate of at least $10,700 per 300-hour intern, allowing DISC to increase the size of Cohort 3.

The recruitment and onboarding timeline is as follows:
October 18, 2026: Deadline for mentor identification and project descriptions.
October – November 2026: Candidate selections, interviews, and pairing.
December 2026: Finalize setup steps.
January 2027: Internships begin.
