Research

I am sharing with the committee my past 10 years since of published peer-reviewed journal articles (36 publications) as well as my website (transitioncoalition.org) and a sample of book chapters, digital and web-based professional development and instruments. These products reflect my history of research and impact within the field of secondary transition, special education and college and career readiness. This sample reflects my research focus: (a) secondary transition inclusive educational reform and (b) teacher education and professional development. One value reflective throughout my career is the collaborative nature of research as is evident with many publications collaboration with graduate students and other colleagues. Most recently, I have collaborated with PSU faculty in order to ensure high quality grant submission (see letters from Dr. Todd Bodner and Dr. Mary Oshwald) My scholarship extends over many years, both before and after joining the faculty ranks. In terms of overall productivity over the course of my academic career, I have published over 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals, more than 20 book chapters, 5 transition evaluation instruments, 16 monographs and technical reports, and over 40 digital and web-based professional development products. I have published a well-received textbook, Your Complete Guide to Transition Planning and Services (2018) for transition educators, with a second book on college and career readiness, College and Career Readiness for Youth with Disabilities: Strategies and Approaches for Educators, under contract. I have sustained a highly successful record of federal and state support for applied research, the development of model transition programs, teacher education and doctoral leadership totaling over $20 million during the course of my research career. My international, national, statewide and regional conference presentations, workshops and trainings are extensive and illustrate my capacity to ensure that research is translated and disseminated into practice.
