Reading
The class will be starting their class reader, 'The Way Home for Wolf.' which is a story about a Wolf cub who doesn't want help from anyone, although he soon changes his mind when he finds himself lost and alone. It is a story of friendship that supports our IPC topic of 'From A to B' and our Personal Learning goals.
Writing
The children completed an independent writing task about their holidays. We will focus on finger spaces, every day punctuation such as full stops, capital letters and question marks. The children will also be making predictions about the book and participating in role play to retell parts of the story.
The children used stick puppets to retell the story to demonstrate understanding.
The children read the story together and worked collaboratively to retell the story using a story arc.
maths
The class are revisiting the topic of Place Value and Number. They completed a baseline assessment and will follow up with further consolidation on number and partitioning numbers. They will use a range of equipment to deepen their understanding.
The children will focus on tens and ones and work on reasoning skills to develop their mathematical thinking.
PLACE VALUE GAME This is a fun math game to consolidate their understanding.
ipc
This week, we will focus on the Brainwave section of IPC - The Big Idea: Our brain is special because it does lots of amazing things.
Once we understand how our brain works and what we can do to make it work even better, then we can improve the way that we learn.
How the brain works:
• About the personal goals that help us to become better learners
• How to find out facts to prepare for a special challenge
• How to learn and practise skills for a special challenge
• How to record how well we are learning
• How to use what we have learned to create our own special challenge
• How to wake up our brain
• How to look after our brain
In IPC, the children looked at their brains and how it works. They dissected a 'brain' and found out what it can do. Next, they completed a set of challenges to challenges.
well being wednesdays
As part of their Wellbeing lessons, the children focused on what makes them unique and what they like about themselves. They then thought about what their lives would look like without these best parts and how it would make them feel.
The children worked collaboratively to take pictures of each other.
