Engagement in artistic processes allows Arkansas students to develop and realize their creative potential, explore other times and cultures, think critically and creatively, and enjoy a satisfying lifetime of artistic practices. This engagement leads students toward artistic literacy and helps to fully prepare them for college, careers, and civic engagement. The Division of Elementary and Secondary Education, by providing rigorous academic standards in the arts, ongoing training and support for arts educators, and opportunities for collaboration with community artists and arts organizations, strives to ensure that every student in Arkansas has access to a well-rounded education that includes excellent and equitable high-quality arts learning experiences.
The purpose of ASBOA is to: stimulate interest in instrumental music, promote leisure time interest which may be continued beyond school years, encourage good fellowship and sportsmanship through the promotion of tournament activities, promote the value of instrumental daily study and training among education authorities, and develop a desire for good music. All high school, junior high, middle or grade school bands and orchestras that have paid a school participation fee and are members of the Arkansas Activities Association are eligible for active membership. Colleges and sustaining membership may participate as associate members.
The Arkansas Music Educators Association’s (ArkMEA) purpose is to promote the advancement of all music education in Arkansas. They provide local- state- and regional-level professional development opportunities that are designed to recruit, retain, revitalize, and equip current and future generations of music educators. ArkMEA believes that every student should have access to a sequential, balanced, and comprehensive program of music education and works to ensure these opportunities for all students in Arkansas.
