Creative Writing

(Incoming 3rd-5th Grade)

Get your creative juices flowing with Creative Writing Camp! In this camp, young authors will explore a variety of genres and styles of writing, including poetry, journaling, and short stories. The focus is on creative thinking, as well as developing students’ individual voices, craft, and writing style. Students will receive a writer’s notebook as part of this camp and participate in a writing celebration on our last day.

Number Sense

This camp will offer students opportunities to deepen their understanding of number sense. We will use hands-on exploration and activities to learn place value, comparing, ordering, addition, and subtraction.

Writing Fun!

(Incoming 1st-2nd Grade)

This will be a fun experience for kids to explore and learn the basics of writing. Each student will be writing various pieces each day. Your child will go through the writing process with one of his/her pieces and make a published book. We will also be participating in fun interactive activities like singing, playing various games, and movement activities to make this class a fun and impactful

learning experience for your child.

In this course, students will be concentrating on nonfiction text. Students will learn about the benefits and uses of text features. We will learn how to read and utilize them to positively impact reading comprehension. Students will also create their own non-fiction text with illustrated text features. We will look at writing using an artistic eye.

Recipe for Sustainable Science: Introduction to Green Chemistry (Incoming 6th-8th Grade)

In this camp, students will participate in a hands-on experience where students can explore green chemistry - an emerging approach to chemical manufacturing. Students will develop company groups, marketing and manufacturing plans of action with reflection and learning about the principles of Green Chemistry in every step of the process.

African-American Literature

(Incoming 9-12th Grade)

This camp will offer students the opportunity to explore African-American literature from the 17th century to the present. Students will explore African-American experiences through literary genres such as narratives, biographies, poetry, and music. This camp will include literary work by authors such as Jupiter Hammon, Zora Neale Hurston, Jason Reynolds, and Kendrick Lamar.

AP US History(APUSH) Writing Bootcamp

(Incoming 10-12th Grade who are taking AP US History)

The APUSH Summer Writing program will prepare students for written portions of the AP United States History Exam. We will cover basic information regarding the exam, then study and practice Short Answer, Long Essay, and Document Based Questions. Particular focus will be placed on Thesis writing. Students will hone their writing skills through practicing the skills taught, grading essays written by other students, as well as learning the major themes of the AP US History curriculum. Successful completion of this program will help students to enter the school year prepared for what many students consider to be one of the more challenging aspects of AP US History.

AP World History Bootcamp

(Incoming 9th Graders who are taking AP World History)

Want to get started early on AP World History? This camp is for you! During this session, 9th grade students who have signed up for AP World History will get an introduction to the College Board rubrics. We will practice the skills needed to do well on the AP Exam next May.

What are AR, VR, and AI? In this camp, you will learn about the emerging technologies of augmented reality, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence. Explore AR and VR apps, programs, and resources that allow you to virtually walk on other planets, swim with sharks, hold a beating human heart, and travel with dinosaurs. Learn how to create AI Chatbots to solve a design challenge. During this two-week program, you will not only explore AR, VR, and AI resources but will learn to create new experiences that you can share with others.

Introduction to Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) History and Culture

Asian American Pacific Islanders have been a part of the American story since our colonial past. This course will explore the immigration history of Asian Americans. Through a closer investigation, we will learn how America shaped these newcomers as well as how the nation was in turn shaped by these immigrants from Asia. As immigration from Asia continues to flourish, we will explore the themes of culture, identity and what it means to be American as we uncover the promises and challenges of the AAPI identity.

Japanese Language and Culture

Medical Career Exploration

Students will have the opportunity to attend several virtual sessions with a variety of health care professionals. Each day a different field will be explored. Medical professionals will present to students for the first portion of the meeting. Students will have an opportunity to ask questions to the professionals for the second portion. All sessions will be held virtually.

(Incoming 9-12th Grade)

Have you ever wanted to develop your own photos in a real darkroom? Students in this 2-week camp will do just that. The first few days, you’ll learn how to use a film camera, taking photos around the P-CEP campus and in our lighting studio. By the end of the first week, you will be developing the film and making black and white 8x10 prints from your negatives. Time permitting, you will try several experimental techniques, like photograms and combining negatives. At the end of the course, you will have a portfolio of prints to take home with you.

SAT Prep - Test Taking Strategies

(Incoming 9-11th Grade)

This 2 week camp will introduce students to SAT test taking strategies for the reading, writing and language, math no calculator, and math calculator portion of the test. We will then see how these strategies are used in the context of the SAT. Finally, students will be given a chance to practice using the strategies. In addition to strategies, students will be given mini lessons on grammar and mathematics so they can stay fresh on the content that the SAT assess most often.

This creative writing camp will offer students the opportunity to improve basic writing skills and share their opinions and life experiences through the use of fun, innovative writing assignments. Blog posts, six word memoirs, podcast scripts, and collection of poetry are some examples of the writing assignments that will be offered.
