ESOL Level 4 Students Write about Days They will Never Forget
February 24, 2022
February 24 changed our lives forever. I will never forget this day. It divided my life into two parts - before and after the start of the war. Early in the morning, the Russians began bombing Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities. I woke up with a call from my husband. He told me about the start of the war. I didn't understand him. But when I looked out the window, I saw many cars on the way. It was unusual. People left Kyiv. We heard alarms and looked for a place to hide. Some people were hiding in basements, underground tunnels, - in the subways. We hoped that this would not last long, because Ukraine would quickly win. Sometimes I thought it was a nightmare. The war changed my life and attitude toward many things. First, the war showed who our true friends are. Second, the war taught me to appreciate what you have. Third, the war forced me to do things that I did not do in civilian life:I helped other people, got help from other people, and moved to other places. Due to the war, I had to change my place of residence and lose my job. Thus, the war destroyed my usual life and changed my attitude toward life. I can't forget February 24. But I hope that we will soon know another date - the day the war ends, the day of Ukraine`s victory.

My Trip to the Carpathians
I will always remember my trip to the Carpathians. Nature impressed me the most. It was winter three years ago. I wanted to celebrate my birthday with my friends in the mountains, and we went to the Carpathians. We took a tent, sleeping bags, and food. Our hike continued for 3 days. We climbed to the top of the mountain and pitched tents. There was a very beautiful view of the mountain. We saw thousands of trees, a river, and wild animals, and it was very quiet. Another one of the best things was the friendly atmosphere. All the time, we joked and laughed. It was very funny. I love my friends. The third reason that makes this trip special is the extreme. The weather was very nice, but at night it was very cold(-25 C). In the evening, we lit a fire and cooked dinner. In the morning, when we woke up, we saw that our food was frozen. We melted the snow to make coffee. The next 2 days, we ate only frozen food. We wanted to climb another mountain, but it was very windy and getting colder. We really liked this trip . We decided to make it a tradition for my birthday.

When I Became a Mother
May 22, 2012, became a date that marked my life forever. That day, one of my dreams came true. My daughter Bella came into my life to change it forever. There are three parts to that beautiful day. First, my water broke at six in the morning. After that, I took a shower. Then my husband took me to the hospital. Second, it was a difficult delivery because I was in labor for twelve hours with a lot of pain, and a specialist had to come and help me with the delivery. Finally, my daughter was born, and when my husband and I met our beautiful princess, we were filled with joy, happiness, and love. Also that night, my husband would not stop hugging our baby, and he even slept with her on his side.

My Best Memory
I will always remember my time in nursing school. When I studied nursing in China 20 years ago, all my classmates were girls. I knew that people thought nursing was only for girls. The nursing school was far from my home. My family didn’t have a car, so I lived in the school’s dormitory. I went back home on the weekend. It was the first time I left my parents and became independent. In nursing school, we practiced injection and transfusion with each other. It was amazing. There were also many interesting things. When we studied pharmacology, we had white mice and rabbits in the class, and that was a challenge for me. But I did it. I had many teachers and classmates who were patient and friendly. I met my best friend. I will always remember my four wonderful years!

The Birth of My Baby
I always remember the day my son was born, like it was yesterday. That day I was excited and happy , but I also worried, because I wanted my son to be born well and healthy. The contractions were very strong and the dilatations lasted a long time. I was very sick, but when my baby was born I was in love with him. My mom stayed with me the whole time. The father of my son arrived at the hospital before my son was born. The doctor was a joker, and the nurses were very friendly with me. In the hospital I drank only orange juice and I couldn't eat my breakfast, because I felt sick. In the hospital room there was a stretcher, and a clock, where I could see the time when my baby was born, and that was at 5:34 pm on Monday April 28, 2014. I named him Juan Jose, and his nickname is “Osito”.

My First Campervan Trip
My first camping trip to Seaside last summer was a trip I will always remember. I was so excited before we left, because a campervan trip was our family’s dream. That was a sunny day. We really enjoyed the good view on the road. We visited the Tillamook Cheese Factory. You could see how cheese is made. We ate delicious cheese burgers and ice cream over there. After that, we arrived at Seaside. My husband found a perfect parking place on the beach. My kids could not wait to play outside. Happy times flew by. Soon, it was time to cook dinner. I cooked steak and seafood in our campervan. My husband quickly built a campfire and set up the dinner table. We enjoyed our wonderful dinner when the sunset was coming. Then, that was the kids' favorite part—the marshmallow time. Can you imagine how happy the kids were when they ate grilled marshmallows? After that, my kids finally ran out of energy and went to sleep. I felt tired too. We listened to the sound of the sea waves and fell into a deep sleep. That was a wonderful campervan trip.
