Once again, Christine Weber hosted our Reading 7 students at the Sylvania Art Gallery and gave the students a tour of the new exhibit, which features work by PCC faculty and staff! The students came up with a list of new words they are learning in the Reading 7 class, and Christine used several of them during her presentation. It was a very emotional time for many students because they were able to relate to many of the paintings and poems. Thanks to Christine Weber for always including and encouraging ESOL students. One student was inspired to write a poem after having visited the gallery.
A poem for the oppressed people of my homeland, living through dark times.

We step into a time
that we did not choose.
We are thrown into the middle of history
and slowly learn
the quiet weight of being.
Sometimes the world becomes heavy
with noise, conflict, and uncertainty,
and under the silent sky of the cosmos
the human heart gradually feels
the weight of existence
and continue searching.
When I look at this cosmic silence,
I remember
that we are small travelers
in an infinite universe.
Still searching for meaning,
still learning
how to remain human
in the shadow of our time.
And in such a time,
being human
is both fragile
and deeply precious.
And perhaps
this is what it means
to exist.
