APRIL Student of the Month

Leah Eyre

Leah Eyre of Loda has been named student of the month for April at Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School.  Leah is the daughter of Allan and Becky Eyre.  She was nominated for this award by social worker, Lauryl McKenry.

Mrs. McKenry said in her nomination, “Leah Eyre has been one of the student leaders involved in planning activities and education for our student body for Mental Health Awareness Month. I have been amazed by Leah's organizational skills as she creates timelines and task lists in preparation for the events and activities planned for the month of May. Leah was an integral part of the creation and implementation of Mental Health Awareness Month activities last school year, and she took initiative to lead a group of students in planning for this school year.”

Mrs. McKenry also stated, “Leah is an impressive student who is successful in academics, but also balances work, involvement in extra-curricular activities, is part of the mentoring class, and also puts extra time and passion into making this project successful. Leah deserves to be recognized for the way she exhibits excellence in every area: academic performance, character, behavior, good citizenship, and leadership. She is a great example of the wonderful students we are lucky to have here at PBL!”

Leah participates in basketball, volleyball, NHS, and student council. She volunteers by being a mentee in the Panther Partners mentoring program, cleaning up trash around the school, delivering May Day baskets to the nursing home, and being on the mental health committee.  Leah has several honors while being a PBL student which include:  Parkland Board of Trustees Scholarship winner, Reynolds-Barwick Scholarship winner, secretary for NHS, student council class representative, Homecoming and Prom Court, and participating in the ECCA program.  Leah plans on attending Parkland after high school and entering the field of nursing.

The student of the month award is sponsored by The Bank of Pontiac.  The award recognizes PBL High School students who demonstrate the school district’s mission of “Excellence through rigor, relevance, and relationships.”  Teachers nominate students and the winner receives $50 and the other nominees receive a $5 gift certificate for Just Hamburgers.  The other students that were nominated for April Student of the Month were Wyatt Burrows, Andrew Calver, Melynnie Cleary, and Hannah Kinnaird.  Congratulations to all the nominees and our winner, Leah Eyre!
