Internet Safety Tips
Tips for Students, Parents and Educators
The internet is a powerful tool that has revolutionized the way we learn, communicate, and interact with the world. However, with the rise of online activity, it's important to be aware of potential risks and dangers that can come with internet use. At Poplar Bluff School District, we take online safety seriously and are committed to providing resources and support to help our students, parents, and educators stay safe online.
For Students:
Keep Personal Information Private: Don't share personal information, such as your full name, home address, or phone number, online. Be cautious when sharing photos or videos online and think twice before sharing something that could be embarrassing or harmful.
Be Cautious of Online Friends: Be cautious when making online friends and don't share personal information with strangers. Remember that not everyone online is who they say they are.
Think Before You Click: Be wary of clicking on links or downloading attachments from unknown sources, as they could contain viruses or malware.
For Parents:
Educate Your Children: Teach your children about online safety and the potential risks associated with internet use. Monitor your child's internet activity and set clear guidelines and expectations for online behavior.
Install Parental Controls: Use parental control software to limit your child's access to inappropriate websites and content. Consider restricting access to social media sites until your child is old enough to handle the responsibilities and risks associated with social media use.
Keep Communication Open: Encourage your child to talk to you about their online experiences and any concerns or issues they may have. Be open and non-judgmental and work together to find solutions to any problems that arise.
For Educators:
Provide Education: Educate students about online safety and the potential risks associated with internet use. Provide resources and support to help students develop the skills and knowledge they need to navigate the internet safely.
Monitor Online Activity: Monitor students' online activity and be aware of any potential safety concerns. Follow district policies and procedures for reporting and addressing safety issues.
Collaborate with Parents: Work collaboratively with parents to promote online safety and address any concerns or issues that arise. Keep communication open and be responsive to parent concerns.
At Poplar Bluff School District, we are committed to promoting online safety and providing resources and support to help our students, parents, and educators navigate the internet safely. If you have any questions or concerns about online safety, please contact the technology department.
