Identify an inclusion priority for individual learners and remove barriers within the general education environment with the use of Supplementary Aides and Services and Universal Design for Learning strategies to foster meaningful inclusion with strong collaboration between schools and families.
As a parent/guardian/caregiver of a child with a disability, you are an important member of your child’s educational team. If your child is experiencing barriers in participating and learning in the general education environment, it may be appropriate for you to request for your child’s school to start a FAB-The Framework for Access and Belonging process. Contact your school’s administrator to begin.

• The goal of inclusion
• Strategies and supports that have worked in the past for your child
• Approaches that have not been effective for your child
• Concerns about possible barriers to the school environment

You should come to the FAB meeting prepared to share your perspective regarding:
• The goal for inclusion
• Strategies and supports that remove barriers to learning
• Approaches that have may not been effective
• Concerns about possible barriers to the school environment
As a Framework for Access and Belonging (FAB) Facilitator, you may have been asked to start the process to hold a FAB Meeting. During the FAB process, you will support team members in collaboratively gathering and analyzing information about a specific student in relation to the team goal for inclusion. The first phase is the pre-meeting survey that all team members must complete. In the teaming phase, the data collected in the pre-meeting survey will guide the teams through the strategy brainstorming activity and inclusion planning. This process leads to the development of an action plan, and the monitoring phase which includes data collection on the supplementary aids and services and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Principles that the FAB team decided to implement to remove the barriers.

The facilitator guides the team through the following steps, while using the FAB Dashboard:
• Compiling and organizing information about the goal for inclusion
• Identifying the priority area of inclusion
• Identifying barriers to participation and learning
• Identifying potential supplementary aids and services and Universal Design for Learning as solutions to remove the barriers
• Creating an action plan and next meeting date
As an administrator of students with disabilities, you may have been asked to get the process started to hold a Framework for Access and Belonging (FAB), Meeting. During the FAB process, you will be a participant in collaboratively analyzing information about a specific student in relation to the team goal for inclusion. This process leads to the development of an action plan, which includes supplementary aids and services and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Principles that the team can incorporate into the student’s IEP when it is developed or revised.
