Biography

Sara obtained her Bachelor of Art degree in Pre-Professional Speech and Language Pathology from Indiana University in 2004, followed by her Master of Science degree in Communication Disorders from Indiana State University in 2006. She is licensed by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency and Credentialed by the American Speech and Hearing Association as a certified Speech and Language Pathologist. She has provided Speech and Language Therapy in public and private schools, client homes, ABA Centers, outpatient rehabilitation centers, and inpatient rehabilitation settings. Sara found her passion in the field giving people who have no functional communication their own voice (whether vocal or through an AAC device), giving her clients an opportunity to gain more independence in life.

Sara has worked in the ABA field since 2000. In 2018, she obtained her licensure as a BCaBA through Florida Tech University. She has studied and worked intensively with Dr. Carl Sundberg, Ph.D., BCBA-D, Gwen Dwiggins Johnson Ph.D., BCBA-D, and Janet Rumple J.D., Ph.D. on behavioral strategies and principles of behavior analysis.

Why ABA and Speech?

Sara began working as a therapist in ABA while she was pursuing a bachelors degree in Communication Disorders. She fell in LOVE with ABA after seeing the difference it made in the life of a child she was working with at the time. She found that ABA was able to give a child who had minimal vocalizations and no functional communication a way to communicate wants and needs vocally. She and her team were elated! This child was 3 years old and had previously been dismissed by his school SLP as never being able to communicate vocally.

Sara is now dually certified as a Speech and Language Pathologist and a Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst. Her dual certifications give her a unique and broad perspective on the treatment she provides to her clients.

Why ABA and Speech? ABA combined with Speech Therapy allows for the best of both worlds on your PATH to successful communication!

A message from Sara...

I love seeing the difference a collaborative approach to Speech and Applied Behavior Analysis can make for a child who has limited communication abilities! My approach is to teach the Behavior Technician how to implement speech goals with their child 40 hours a week rather than the traditional model of 40-60 minutes weekly of speech therapy in a clinic setting. Seeing the limitations of having speech therapy only once weekly, I developed a "hybrid" approach that ensures goals are generalized to everyday settings and situations in a more efficient way. With our consultation model of speech therapy, your child is able to make greater speech and language progress in their natural day to day environment. It is exciting for me to teach parents, caregivers, families, and Behavioral Technicians how to maximize speech and language learning potential! I look forward to working with you and your child to show you the difference that combined Speech and Behavioral Therapy can make!
