PRHS Health Science & Medical Technology CTE Pathway

There are many exciting opportunities available for Bearcats interested in healthcare professions. Our Introduction to Healthcare course is a dual enrollment class with Cuesta College and is an A-G approved elective, and has been created to give students the opportunity to explore the depth of career opportunities in this continuously expanding field, and to understand the training and education required to get there. In addition, the course teaches students basic healthcare skills that they will elevate in our intermediate and advanced courses. After completing the introductory course students can take Sports Medicine which is also Dual enrolled and an A-G approved elective, where they will learn about injury and illness recognition, evaluation, prevention, treatment, and emergency care. While sports medicine focuses on the exciting and entertaining world of athletics, the knowledge and skills learned are vital components to many healthcare careers. With the completion of these two classes students become eligible for our advanced Practicum courses where they will work alongside either the PRHS Athletic Trainer in the Athletic Training Room helping to ensure the health of our Bearcat athletes, or with a medical professional from our community in the field of healthcare that most interests the student. Examples include Twin Cities Hospital, Paso Robles City Fire Department, Chiropractics, Physical Therapy, Dentistry, and Optometry. Practicum courses allow students to spend 3 days a week outside of the classroom setting in a healthcare facility gaining invaluable hands on experience, and making them career ready.

Any students interested in more information can reach Ms. LaMendola at srlamendola@pasoschools.org, or drop by room 1019.
