Teacher Workshop with exciting demonstrations
Breakout sessions with demonstrations useful in Chemistry
Provided all materials and procedures to use in classroom
As a Noyce TLIIST fellow, I have read the article The Value of Chemistry in a STEM Focused World by Martha Milam. The article highlights the need for technology and project-based learning in the classroom for improved STEM employees in the future. The training received through the TLIIST fellowship directly helps me improve STEM education in my classroom and beyond.
Rice professors provided ideas and supplies to use in the classroom:
Does the amount of carbon dioxide in atmosphere effect climate change?
Teach conceptual knowledge of Stoichiometry by proportional reasoning
Bucky balls can be used to show from bonds to how a soccer ball bounces
Use the balloon race to explore the concept of limiting reagents
Predict which ice cube would melt first to investigate the relationship between heat and color
Mentored by Rice University Chemistry professor, Dr. Hutchinson
Provided with Flinn Scientific gift certificate for lab supplies that are shared with team members
Articles, materials and procedures are available to use in classroom
