The School Counselors will collaborate with teachers after each MAP test administration in the Fall, Winter, and Spring. We will support students as they write SMART goals and take ownership of their own learning and success. By the end of the Spring administration, the goal is that 95% of our students show academic growth in both math and reading.
The School Counselors will guide teachers on how to present upcoming Social and Emotional lessons. We will use the guidance lessons that are provided through the Second Step program. The goal is to provide 2 school-wide guidance lessons per month. The 16 total lessons will target social-emotional learning in the areas of setting goals, mindsets, bullying, thoughts, emotions, relationships, and conflict resolution. By the end of the guidance period, student discipline referrals will decrease by 25%.
The School Counselors will provide a minimum of 8 counseling groups to target behavior goals and reduce the number of office referrals for Inappropriate Conduct. These counseling groups will focus on teaching the students respectful communication skills, social norms, positive mindset, using assertiveness, and conflict resolution. By the end of the 6 grouping sessions, discipline office referrals, in the area of Inappropriate Conduct, will decrease by 50%.
The School Counselors will offer teachers and staff an opportunity to attend virtual Self-Care circles. There will be 11 total sessions offered to help teachers and staff reduce stress-levels and maintain a positive culture and school climate.

During the 2021-2022 school year, behavior and student work completion were a major concern. Our Counseling team collaborated with our Foundations team and Student Advisory Committee to offer incentive events to the students. The incentive events were implemented to motivate students to stay on track academically and to improve behavior. Behavior and the Personalized Learning Platform progress were monitored for a six week period. The results were outstanding! There were improvements in student academic performance and a 70% decrease in office referrals from the month of October to the month of December!
Students enjoyed the incentive that they worked hard to earn. They stayed on track academically and improved behavior. They danced with their teachers and friends, enjoyed concessions, and celebrated their well-deserved incentive.
Office referrals during the 2021-2022 school year, were extremely high. Almost half of the discipline referrals were due to Inappropriate Conduct/Verbal Aggression. Out of the 537 referrals submitted, 239 of them were related to Inappropriate Conduct/Verbal Aggression. After reviewing the data, the counselors used guidance lessons to target social-emotional learning in the areas of setting goals, mindsets, bullying, thoughts, emotions, relationships, and conflict resolution. As a result, there was a 10% decrease in office referrals from the Fall semester to the Spring semester.
During this guidance lesson, students learn how to identify actions that can prevent conflict. They were engaged in discussion about major and minor conflicts. They identified situations that cause conflicts to escalate and discussed what they can do instead.
In an effort to continue to support the mental health and well-being of our teachers and staff, School Counselors offered Teacher Self-Care Circles via Zoom. These Self-Care Circles were loosely based on restorative circles. Our teachers and staff members would attend various sessions based on topics such as setting healthy boundaries, self-love, making time for yourself, and many more.
As a campus, we understand the importance of parental involvement and collaboration with parents to support our students. Throughout the year, we offered multiple opportunities for parents to join us for special events. Parents were invited to the Meet the Teacher event and to our Bilingual Book Club. We invited parents to join us for the track and field day event, and to the conclusion of the 2021-2022 school year to take part in their children receiving awards. We are thankful for our parents!
