Each - Era (Time period/age, Example: Gilded Age, World War II Era)
Time - Topic - ESPN (Economic, Social, Political or eNvironmental?)
Harry - Highlight (keywords in question/paragraphs that tell main idea)
Sings - Summary (4-5 words of main idea of pics/excerpts/graphs ONLY)
eXcites - "X" Wrong Answers from other eras/topics
Us - Underline Evidence in question & answer that connects (key words)
When you get your scratch paper on the day of the STAAR Test, write your strategies first (above) then, write down your eras & their dates in order.
Westward Expansion & Gilded Age (1877-1898)
Characteristics: Industrialization, Immigration, Urbanization & Political Corruption.
U.S. Expansionism (Spanish American War - 1898) & World War I (1914-1918)
Characteristics: Expansion of navy & overseas markets, rise as a world power & U.S. abandons neutrality in 1917.
Characteristics: Reformers tried to correct issues of Gilded Age, Muckrakers exposed corruption & more government regulation.
Characteristics: Prohibition, Jazz Age, & Mass consumerism
the Great Depression (1929-1941)
Characteristics: Unemployment, homelessness, & expansion of the role of the federal government for social & economic welfare.
World War II (1939-1945) (U.S. Entry in 1941)
Characteristics: Pulls U.S. out of Great Depression, Rise of Dictators & Patriotism at home.
The Early Cold War (1947-1964) 1950s Prosperity & Beg. of Civil Rights
Characteristics: Communism vs. Democracy/Capitalism, Space Race & Nuclear/Arms Race.
1960s: Vietnam & Civil Rights (1960-1969)
Characteristics: Led to increased rights & participation in the democratic process for minorities, Political Organizations, & Non-violence/civil disobedience movement.
1970s-End of the Cold War (1969-1989)
Characteristics: Middle East Issues, back to traditional (Christian) values, & two government scandals.
Characteristics: 9/11 Attacks, Globalization, Modern Technology & Election of first minority President.
