Science Bowl is a yearly quizbowl competition by the US Department of Energy. You answer science and math questions as fast as possible, competing against another team. Like the West team, the team practices and then goes to the regional competition, which varies depending on the exact day. As we did in 2024-2025 and the 2022–2023 school year, the team that wins regionals (pictured above) will get a free ticket to Washington, D.C. to compete at nationals, participate in fun activities, and eat amazing food! The winners of nationals will earn $10,000 for their school, with runner-up awards going to the top 16. Our team members and our coach, Mrs. Shenderov, are very supportive. We promise that this will be a great experience!
Yes! The Parkway West team is recognized as one of the best Science Bowl teams in Missouri! We have repeatedly won regionals, INCLUDING LAST YEAR (2024–2025) and 2022–2023, and gotten in the top 3 every year since 2019 (When PWest Scibo was founded). If you join Science Bowl, you will be safe knowing that you are among the best Sciboers in the state of Missouri. Additionally, we got into the top 16 teams at Nationals last year (2024–2025), earning our school $1000 while enjoying a trip to Washington, D.C. with 24/7 free food and absolutely amazing activities!
Science bowl practice is an after-school activity; we practice for an hour every Monday with Mrs. Shenderov. Please take a look at the after-school activity handbook for more details. You don't need a huge time commitment to join Science Bowl, as it will be just an hour each week; practice outside of that hour is nice and strongly recommended! It's required before the competition as well. Additionally, Team One's practice requirements are more strenuous.
