💻 Chromebook Care 101
Taking great care of your Chromebook ensures it stays fast, reliable, and ready for class. Use these quick tips to keep your device running like a pro!
🔄 Give it a Quick Weekly Refresh
Update once a week: Regular updates fix background bugs and keep your system secure.
How to update: Open Settings, type "Update" in the search bar, click Check for updates, and install any pending items.
Finish with a restart: Don't just close the lid at the end of the day. Fully restarting once a week clears the cache and keeps it running smoothly.
🔋 Master Your Battery Health
Target the sweet spot: Try to keep your battery between 40% and 80% as much as possible.
Unplug when full: Avoid leaving your Chromebook plugged in after the charging light turns blue.
Avoid the 0% drain: Letting your battery completely die puts heavy strain on its chemistry, causing it to degrade faster over time.
Turn on Adaptive Charging: If your Chromebook model supports this feature, toggle it on in your power settings to let the system automatically manage health.
📱 Pro-Tip: Apply these exact same rules to your smartphone to heavily extend its overall lifespan!
🛡️ Protect Your Device (Your Way)
Keep the case on: Never remove your school-issued protective case. It is your primary shield against accidental drops and costly repairs.
No stickers or writing: Do not draw on or stick anything directly to the Chromebook or its case.
💡 Personalization Hack: Want to customize it? Slide a decorated piece of paper or scrapbooking page inside the clear section of your case. It looks great and slips right out when it's time to return the device!
🧼 Keep it Clean
Wipe it down: Use a soft microfiber cloth to regularly clear smudges and dust from your screen and keyboard.
Watch the debris: Make sure there are no crumbs, pens, or headphones left on the keyboard before you close the lid to prevent cracked screens.
All Students
Bring Charged Devices: You must bring a charged Chromebook daily. There are no loaner chargers.
Loaner Policy: Loaner Chromebooks are strictly for students with a device currently in for repair. If your loaner gets locked, your main Chromebook is ready—return the loaner to Mrs. Howe to pick up your original device.
Personal Devices: IT cannot service personal cellphones or laptops.
Repair Fees: Fees are posted to Infinite Campus (IC) after repairs are complete. Pay online via IC or at the bookstore (do not give money to Mrs. Howe).
Freshmen — Welcome to North!
Device Pickup: You must turn in your middle school Chromebook, case, and charger to receive your new device, or fees will apply. Return any extra middle school equipment immediately.
Cases & Labels: Do not remove the assigned case or name label. Bringing a Chromebook in for repairs without its case will result in a replacement case fee.
Audit Notice: Mrs. Howe will review all middle school inventory one month into the school year and issue fees for any unreturned items.
Sophomores & Juniors — Welcome Back!
Make sure your devices are charged and ready for day one!
Seniors — Welcome Back, Favorite Class! (Being the favorite does not exempt you from tech rules!)
Graduation Chromebook Keep Program: If the District approves keeping your Chromebooks this year, look for a Google Form link sent via email throughout the year.
Mandatory Form: Completing this Google Form is FREE and mandatory for everyone, regardless of whether you plan to keep or return your device. You can update your response up until the last day of school.
Don't Hold Up the Class: Device restrictions for the entire senior class cannot be removed until every single form is completed. Some of your peers will need to use thse devices in college. Complete yours as soon as the first email arrives!
