Amato
Courses: Intro. to Physics (9th) and Astronomy (10-12th)
Information: Let's do this!!!! I am very excited to be back in person in the classroom with the students - I love the energy they bring!!! This is my 20.5 year teaching science at PHS and I simply love it! I know students are getting use to being back in the classroom and learning new routines, so please encourage them to work hard and try!!!! We will continue to build academic confidence and endurance throughout the year! Also, the only reason your student would have homework for my class would be if they did not finish in class. They are expected to just finish at home and be ready the next day - no penalties!
Astronomy is a project based course where their points in class come from maintaining their notebook (INB) AND a project each of the 4 units. All of this is done in class and the only homework they should have would be if they did not finish in class.
Intro. to Physics is a skills based course, so students' grades in class are reflective of how well they demonstrate the skills being assessed. I keep their 2 highest scores on each skill each semester. We will hit each skill at least 4 times each semester and the grades on StudentVue/ParentVue will be updated after each assessment.
Please do not hesitate to teach out anytime. You can email me at my school email = amatoang@parkrose.k12.or.us OR call / text at (971) 770 - 1370. I will try and respond within 24 hours. Go Broncos!

Written Information: Hello! I am so excited to have your students in my classroom this year and to be in person. I very much missed the student contact during Distance Learning. I have been teaching for 25 years and 14 of those have been at Parkrose High School. I am so proud to be a Bronco. I became a teacher because I love working with kids and helping them reach their full potential. I believe every student can succeed and reach their goals, even if they have to overcome obstacles and I am here to help them do that.
If you ever have a question or concern, please don't hesitate to reach out to me through email (handsjen@parkrose.k12.or.us) or texting (503-974-4237). Please let me know who you are in the text. I have prep during first period, so I will often return calls between 8:00 am and 9:35 am.
With the uncertainty of this school year, I have worked very hard to make sure that any student that is absent for an extended period of time can stay caught up on google classroom and complete assessments on google classroom. However, students need to take on that responsibility to look at google classroom and stay caught up. All pages of the paper InterActive Notebook (INB) are on Google classroom. The order is by page number with the oldest at the bottomo. All assessments rely on the information in the INB and are based on 5 science skills (Engaging in Argument from Evidence, Obtaining/Evaluating/Communicating Infomation, Developing and Using Models, Analyze and Interpret Data, Constructing Explanations). Students will complete 5 assessments for each skill. The two lowest scores will be dropped for each skill and their grade will be based on the 3 grades. So, a student should improve on each of these skills and be able to bring their grade up by the end of the semester. If a student tries, they will earn at least a 65%. Assessments are usually completed on Google Classroom and students have 2 weeks from the date of the assessment to complete it. After that two weeks, it will remain a zero.
So, Google Classroom is very important. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Written Information: I am so excited for another year of teaching and learning at Parkrose! I have spent a lot of my summer getting ready to welcome your students back into the building and I am excited to get to know you all! This is my twelfth year of teaching at Parkrose High School; this year I am teaching AP Biology and AVID 12. I can't believe our AVID students are SENIORS! I am also the advisor for an engineering design club called MESA.
I am glad to be back in person this year and am hoping that we get to stay in person for the long-run. If we do end up at home again at any point this year, I can promise to be flexible and understanding, and assure you that I will give your student the grace they need to keep learning in whatever way makes the most sense for them. I hope your student has a wonderful year at Parkrose regardless of what this year brings. I look forward to getting to know you all better throughout the year! Please do not hesitate to reach out if your student needs some extra support this year!

Information
Hello Parkrose community! I go by Jackie in my every day life but the students call me Mrs. Rondhuis. I am a true nerd at heart and really love learning more about the world each day. I am a mother of a nine month old baby and 2 wonderful dogs. My husband serves in the Army National Guard and what ever free time I have I spend fixing up my house, traveling the world or working out.
I have been teaching High School science for 11 years now. I have been at Parkrose for the last 8 years. I am really looking forward to a year of real science. Hands on activities and solving challenging real world problems. I believe every student should study science because it teaches you how to think skeptically about facts and it also teaches you how the natural world works. Science can be useful knowledge for what ever profession a student might pursue.
