Internal PBB Use Only - please do not copy or forward any of this content
From 2025, PBB is introducing annual licensing. Licensing ensures that our team across Australia (or further afield) are aware of changes over the past year, upcoming changes and any new compliance related requirements. There are two ways to obtain licensing:
Attend the annual gathering each year in August (take part in formal and informal training over the weekend)
Read through the briefing notes below to get up to speed on what was covered at the 26th Anniversary event training, attend a (minimum of x3 per year) 'Rock Pools' (on the 7th and 17th of each month) and/or 'Drop in Training Sessions' (various times across each week), and take a simple test ( below👇)
PBB will require Facilitators and Mentors working with our clients to wear their licence (which is attached to a lanyard). Client sign in will be updated to ask each attendee to confirm their Facilitator / Mentor is wearing their licence.

Licensing expires one year after issue and is part of how we deliver against requirements for PBB to retain it's 'accredited' status. This is designed to ensure team members are up to speed on latest information and requirements.
If you're here, reading this, it means you are either at the annual gathering, or missed it this year and are catching up on what you missed. Simply read though the list of information /updates below and ensure that you aware of whats changing.
During the 26th anniversary weekend we had several short training sessions, some informal alongside more formal training sessions. Training over the weekend focused on key items from the list below but if there's anything specific you see that you want to know more about, ask any of the core operations team - that's JD Knight, Pete Nicholls, Candece Baker, Tim Kay and Storme Bauchop.
Things you need to know:
Positioning
PBB is not political, ideological, theological, gendered nor does it align with any one group over any other.
At our core, in terms of gender, we are inclusive, meaning we operate services that are appropriate to individual needs. i.e. we operate MIDs in a specific mum friendly way, and DIDs in a specific dad friendly way.
A peer is anyone that would be accepted by others as a 'fellow peer'. Anyone that is not, will be supported 121, typically by the helpline but also via our new and growing 121 mentors.
Our vision, mission and values drive who we are and how we behave. They are critical to who we are and drive all major decisions. Read them here.
Our strategy drives what we do and how we do it. We share our strategy in training, at regular 'Rockpool's and at our annual gatherings.
We do not forget why Tony Miller OAM started the organisation in 1999 and we stay true to the founders dream.
New branding allows us to go into new directions. i.e. not just parents.
Strategy
500 in 5 years (2024-2029), 500 support locations around Australia by end of 2029
Growth through innovation, agility, partnership and recognition.
PBB's culture is based on family and our values - we achieve through the goodwill, support and delivery of our team.
Inclusivity - different strokes for different folks. Wee provide different services for different demographics.
Fathers Day BBQ - world record attempt.
PA Day event (12th Oct) each year and the global PASG partnership
Actual real world performance vs traditional sector talk and 'fitting in'
Team safety and wellbeing
History shows us that team members that do not engage with the wider organisation and debriefing, risk personal vicarious trauma and support closure.
Since 2020, we've not had a single case of vicarious trauma where that volunteer engaged in regular debriefing and attended regular 'Rockpool's, and now 'Drop-in Training sessions'.
If you are concerned about a colleague or client, you must let HQ know to ensure we can deliver the support that is needed.
PBB insures it's volunteers on the proviso, they are following their training and PBB policy.
If you are ever not sure what to do, reach out to any core HQ team member.
Encourage team members to attend the PBB annual gathering - this is where we meet, socialise and help each other develop and stay safe in a difficult environment.
Debriefing after every group allows you to switch off and reduces stress - it offloads the issues. Cumulatively, this makes a big difference.
Do not hand out your phone number
Use of AI - huge risk for separating parents and our team
Client safety
The Helpline is automatically alerted if an attendee signs in at high levels of distress. They will let you know if there's a problem.
If you have a concern about a clients safety, call the helpline or email helpline@parentsbeyondbreakup.com and they will follow up.
