Since the Industrial Revolution, the people living in advanced economies have found themselves at odds with one another about the best way to organize our economy in the wake of so much prosperity. One one side are the Capitalists, who have claimed victory as the system which produced this prosperity, and see Capitalist institutions as essential to maintaining that prosperity. On the other side are the Socialists, who advocate for a more egalitarian economy based on the values of solidarity and cooperation.
Let's dispense with the political tribalism and strawmanning, and work towards a deeper understanding of these competing ideas.
