Year 10 Dance builds on the foundations introduced in Year 9 and prepares students for senior dance at Levels 1, 2, and 3. The key focus is on deepening students’ understanding of the elements of dance, which are essential for both choreography and performance.
Students will be encouraged to continue exploring ideas and concepts through movement, while also beginning to identify and reflect on their individual strengths and areas for growth in dance.
While having completed Year 9 Dance is helpful, it is not a requirement. Students with an interest in dance are welcome to join Year 10 Dance, even if they are new to the subject.
Students will begin to develop an understanding of the elements of dance and how these elements can influence and shape choreography.
Students will learn a series of 1-minute dance sequences taught by the teacher, exploring a variety of different genres.
Students will work individually or in groups to create a dance in any genre of their choice. They will also write a statement of intention, explaining what their dance is about and what they aim to communicate through their movement.
